The News

I'm insanely busy right now with all the IMSA races stuffed into a few months, in the past 3 weeks I've spent about 3 days at home and am about to head to Laguna Seca. I intend to do some research for you guys on this, but I'm getting hammered right now. I really don't want to see FAST go down the t...

School me on Race Tires

...if you want to use new tires every weekend, you will always be faster, there's no way around it, but it seems a bit over the top for a bunch of guys just having fun with cars. There were -- are -- guys who do that for national events! Oddly enough, some of the current crop of street tires do nee...

class for mustang (SCCA T4)

So I dragged this home the other day. it's a legit SCCA T4 class road racer. which basically means it's an almost stock V6 drivetrain, with Ford Performance suspension (no coil overs allowed) no interior, with a cage. it would vaguely fall into the GS class. so..open modified? that would mean ANY st...

Mirage - Still lifting a front tire

got into this late, but I wouldn't be extremely concerned about lifting wheels in the corners, back in the day everybody figured that 4 contact patches on the ground was the best for handling, but those days are over, virtually every car out there is running on the bump stops in the corners, as long...

School me on Race Tires

I meant to reference the A7 vs R7 above, we use almost nothing but Hoosier A7s on all of Phoenix performance race cars, the only time we use R7s is for practice so they last awhile for a couple of race weekends, but A7s are by far the weapons of choice, even at Daytona or Homestead, which is brutal ...

School me on Race Tires

IMHO the SCCA could really help out competitors in the race tire class by allowing traction enhancing chemicals. The reason is , in any tire, but particularly race tires, the first 3 laps you run on them will be the fastest those tires will ever go, after that they will fall off, this is why you see...

Painting a Miata

Today, I learned that I actually enjoy the process of wet sanding and polishing. Kinda fun to bring it to the next level. Yes, it does take some time and effort! And I'm glad someone experienced was running the power buffer. Really??.. have you ever seen a Mustang paint job..up real close? I do agr...
