Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

UPDATE - Put the Super Sports on and went to the event at The FIRM this past weekend. It's apples to oranges when comparing these to the Maxxis "performance" tires that I had, but suffice it to say, the SS's are better in every way. Some notes:

- Pretty quiet. Didn't pick up any noticeable tire ...

Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

Haha, I may lack speed, but I'll make up for it in moxie. :-)

And what's FTD?

Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

What I'm saying is: Buy the Konis. Maybe even before you buy the tires. You'll be happy you did.

Mine is also a 2007 PRHT Grand Touring! It's got the Bilstein package, which I've heard are both very durable and will last to 100k miles, and are utter garbage and will wear out quickly... So not ...

Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

For a $20 difference on a set of tires, I would rather support Tire Rack (a company that supports motorsports) than... Wal-Mart.

I wholeheartedly agree.

So be warned if you have a stiff suspension these sidewalls are stiffer than both my R1R's 140 and RS3's ver 2.0. Koni's only work in rebound ...

Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

I know!! I guess they have a plant over here, though. And Continental is German... not sure who I should dislike more (haha).

Wait... my wife is of German decent... Another selling point for the DW's!!! :thought:

"See, Sweetie, these tires (that I don't need) are from Germany... so it's totally ...

Re: 2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

Suddenly... A new challenger appears!

I didn't even consider the DW's due to the 340 treadwear rating - which I know is basically made-up between manufactures, but still...

Thank you for the heads-up on the current deal, Doug. That kind of a price point is hard to argue against.

The fact that ...

2007 MX-5 - Michelin Pilot SS's??

Hey Guys,
Sorry to add another "tire thread", but I'm currently in the market. My newly-acquired MX-5 desperately needs a set of decent tires if I ever hope to outrun anyone in-class. So, I've been looking through the popular 200 treadwear tires (Star Specs, RS-3's, etc.) and out of left field came ...

Re: Sept 27 Post-event

Great course, great food, and great people. I was a little taken aback by how friendly everyone was - very cool.
I learned a lot in the little blue NC, most notably how important tires are!

And my apologies to the course worker that had to clean up the 4-5 cones that I smashed into on my ...

Re: FAST Novice School - Digital Edition

This is all really good stuff!
I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but there's a movie that came out a couple years ago called "Weekend of a Champion" in which Roman Polanski followed Jackie Stewart around during the 1971 Monaco Gran Prix weekend. Absolutely brilliant footage and very ...

Re: New guy - Hi!

Lucky for you Steve has me bring an awesome lunch.

BUT if you bring coffee and some donuts you will be the hero of the Classic :snore:

Haha, I may be able to bring some donuts... probably not enough for everyone. I'm not quite sure how many donuts can fit in a Miata, but I'm betting it's not ...

Re: Sept 27 - FAST Classic @ Brooksville

Looks like a fun course. This will be the first time driving my MX-5 at more than 7/10th's (I was auto-xing a 06 Mustang GT previously). Hoping for a good shake-down and evaluation day. Looking forward to it!

New guy - Hi!

Hey everyone. I've done a few autocross events with SCCA and Martin SCC but I've yet to go to a FAST event. However, that's about to change as I've registered for the Classic event on the 27th. Look forward to meeting all of you! :thumbwink:
