Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
We have a two-day event coming up in a bit, and since those events usually take a little more planning, I figured I bring back this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=469
First off, this event needs a Chair, in addition to a plan.
We've done enduros and mirros lately - the thread above speaks of two days scored cumulatively, of doing a one-way on the runway...
What shall it be? and who shall Chair it?

Re: Ideas for Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
Here are some themes stolen from PCA, they stole #6 from you, so I guess you can call it even now.
You could do a themed event one day and a regular autocross the other.
I kinda like the driver age or car age based ideas (#16 and 17). Or maybe an Axis vs. Allies event, minus the theatrics and arranged outcome.
1. Free Cone Day – No time penalty for the first cone you hit on any run. The course may be designed to make that choice tricky.
2. Reversible Course Day– 3 runs in one direction, 3 runs in the opposite direction. Sum the best runs each way and that’s your time.
3. Ride Along Day – An Organized day were instructors give rides, and get rides. A great way to learn. Guests welcome time permitting.
4. Back to Basics Day - This is for All levels of drivers to hone their skills (basic and advanced). An autocross school type course with instructional walk throughs and group discussions. Newbies will shave seconds; experienced drivers will shave precious tenths. Like Phase II Evolution.
5. Hawaiian Shirt Day – Is a Fact, Hawaiian shirts make you drive faster; probably to avoid embarrassment. Prizes for crowd favorites.
6. Battle Cross (Battle-X) – An idea Stolen from another club, so it must be good. Two cars run at a time, separated by ½ of the distance of the course. The first one back to their start/finish line wins. 4 runs guaranteed. More runs if you win. Several classes to make it fair. Sorry, No first timers.
7. Rookie Weekend Autocross – Perennial favorite for newer drivers held as part of the Rookie weekend. Basic instruction to get new drivers off to a good start.
8. Competition Chairman Challenge – Beat the Chairman and get a prize.
9. D.E. versus Autocrossers – Head to head, No classing. Bring something very, very fast. Open course design with no tricks.
10. Ladies Day - Daughters welcome too. Special awards, etc.
11. 911 vs. Boxster Day – team awards
12. Fast 4 Fest – Special day for 4 cylinder Porsches
13. Turbo Sunday - ?? Need to work on that one.
14. Street Tire Day – 2 Second time reduction for street tires. Let’s see if the old rule of thumb is true, that R-compounds are 2 seconds faster. Awards for top adjusted times.
15. Turbo vs. Normally aspirated Day.
16. Classic versus Modern – Team event with 15(?) year old plus cars versus less than 15 year old cars.
17. Whipper Snapper vs. Seasoned Driver Day - Two teams separated by the age of the driver. Probably using 45 as the dividing line.
18. Classic Car Day – Special day for cars more than 25(?) years old.
19. BMW vs. PCA - Our annual event.
20. PCA vs. Miata
21. Germany vs. Japan
22. Sand lot pick-up Teams – Two captains pick teams one driver at a time.

I'd think Jeremy invented this one, except it only exempts the first cone....Jeremy17 wrote:1. Free Cone Day – No time penalty for the first cone you hit on any run.

These are cool ideas, and pretty easy to do. How's Steve going to feel about being picked last, though?2. Reversible Course Day– 3 runs in one direction, 3 runs in the opposite direction. Sum the best runs each way and that’s your time.

PCA asked about doing this at Lakeland last year. If we did it at Brooksville, we'd probably be bumping the 75-person limit the airport insists on, but it might be worth offering up.20. PCA vs. Miata

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

We could just split them at the median age, whatever that would be, early 30 something I guess.Jamie wrote:Too many whippersnappers in our club...teams would be uneven....17. I will chair the event if no one has already volunteered. I like a lot of the ideas so far but I haven't thought about it enough to pick anything. I would like to see more ideas before we decide.

That's great! She's all yours Howard. Thanks for volunteering. Feel free to campaign for a co-chair if you like - you've got potentially 2 courses to design, etc.impalanut wrote:I will chair the event if no one has already volunteered. Two days of B-ville offers a lot of saddle time...if we make the most of it.
I personally favor endurocross for this course, because it can be very long.
Reverse course is very effective for time in the car, too. No re-setting, except for the lights -simple and fast.
I'm sure it'll be fun, whatever you decide. C-ya

Re: Ideas for Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
Hey, how did my list get over here? "Jeremy", he said shaking his fist.
I wish I could attend these but I'm busy with my own autocross on both days.
Splitting up by the age of the cars, or age of the drivers is still an event I want to do.
We did do the reversable course day, and except for having to add the times together by hand, it went surprisingly well.
(If I remember corectly Danny Shields won.... easily.)

I like the idea of a reversible course day. Wouldn't be too hard to keep a spreadsheet of times to determine the winners on-site.

Re: Ideas for Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
A reversible course event would be perfect for a two day event.
As far as the others, they could be done at any event, as long as we (which pretty much means Kenny) could produce dual results.
I like the age based competitions. Pretty much puts me in 'old' for both. Although we don't have too many old cars. If we do it at Brooksville we old car drivers can try make sure Peter Varga and Elliot Harvey make it out to boost the numbers. Yellow_Colorz_PDT_02
I think Hawaiian shirt day should be mandatory for every event .

OK, Howard - registration for this event will be opening in a week. Time to make some choices about what we're doing with this time so that folks will know what they are registering for.

Re: Ideas for Oct. 17 and 18 at Brooksville
I am planning for a type of relay for the saturday event and a more standard type on event on sunday which will be the points event. The relay will involve choosing teams, partly pre seeded by the people who have signed up and partly chosen sand lot style on the day of the event. Likely with the A and R guys separated and the novices separated. I have to work out the starting issues but I think I have that solved. Look for a longer course on Sunday with a variety of elements. I was away the last ten days so I should be able to finalize things in the next 2 weeks.

Inevitably thinking about logistics...so we're looking at a different course for Sunday? We'll have to make sure the post-event crew Saturday is large enough to reset the course. I assume we're packing everything but cones in the trailer and leaving it there Saturday night?
