Yeah, one has to act quick these days. Heck, you even have to register early these days just to make sure you've got a driving spot. :shock:Tim_M wrote:Jeez...it hasn't been a week and my preferred work assignments are gone!

Re: July 17th - SPC
There's usually a big surge the first couple of days, then little for a week or so. But in that first surge, no one wants to work the event or clean up afterwards...there's usually 8-10 requests for early assignments (esp setup)...and few alternate selections, which default to "whatever the event chair needs."Tim_M wrote:Jeez...it hasn't been a week and my preferred work assignments are gone!

Registration did need a person, so you're paired up with Drew.

Not so fast...Drew has agreed to take over my co-chair spot, so it's now Jamie and Drew.Jamie wrote:Registration did need a person, so you're paired up with Drew.
Jamie, I had originally signed up for reg. as my second pick, and I'm fine doing that, but only with the understanding that I may not be able to attend, in which case, someone will need to be able to get Tim up to speed (so to speak Yellow_Colorz_PDT_01 ) So, feel free to not pre-assign me anything, or, put me on registration with Tim and gamble that I'll show up! Sorry to be so wishy-washy, I'm not happy about it either...

OK. Left you unassigned; we need an experienced registration person to pair up with Tim.Native wrote:Not so fast...
And of course, we really need someone to tow the trailer.

I signed up for Tech, then Starter but since I live really close to the SPC site and we're not fooling with tire changes and such - I can be there early if there's a greater need for course set-up, registration, etc.
Just let me know.

I just registered for this event and put teardown as my job but it's my first event so wherever you need me is fine for me.

Registered.
Give me a work assignment near a busy cone, I need the exercise.
When I first started autocrossing I used to envy those timing guys sitting in the shade while I was chasing cones.
Now I look forward to having no responsibilities except resetting cones.

Re: July 17th - SPC
We are bouncing around some awesome course layout ideas, but since we don't have anyone to tow the trailer yet, we may have to make the course fit in Howard's driveway.
Now, that may not go over too well with Mrs. Sharf, and we don't want Howard sleeping in the barn with the trailer.
So, will someone, pretty please, tow the trailer?

Re: July 17th - SPC
Hey all, I have a few questions. I've been out of the autox game a while, and haven't been to SPC location since SunRiders Miata Club. I live right here in Largo, so its would be nice to come out.
I was wondering if at this, or other venues FAST uses, what your take on controlled drifting. I have been a serious minded drifter since 2006 and have over 100 track events attended. I only track my car, it is a fully prepped, caged, and safety spec'd car.
I have resently done some new upgrades, and want to just get some seat time before competitions come along for me.
I understand there is 2 sides concerned. Both FAST yourselves, and the venues outlook on it. This is why I am asking before registering for an event and just coming out to do it. I am very professional in track manners and attitude and am not one of the typical 'drifters' you all have probably met.
If any of you were at the Full Auto Motorsports event this past weekend, I was driving this car here:

Please let me know your thoughts and the possibilities if any. Thank you.

Re: July 17th - SPC
As (as Loren would put it) the HMFIC (or at least one of the pair), my take is: it's an autocross, and advertised only as such. If you're getting around the course without disrupting the event flow, damaging the course, or causing a safety problem, we're not going to critique your technique.boxmod wrote:I was wondering if at this, or other venues FAST uses, what your take on controlled drifting.

Re: July 17th - SPC
Careful, guys. He's an almost "pro level" drifter asking to use our event specifically to practice drifting.
First, I commend your professionalism in asking, Jason. Hat's off to you. 8)
The powers-that-be at SPC don't like (or don't "get") drifting. The one and only drift event that was ever held there totally freaked them out, and that group was not invited back. While a little bit of "incidental" drifting is to be expected at an autocross, a big smoky drift of most of the course is not at all what we're about... and I'd be a little concerned about the possibility of losing one of our two autocross sites should the wrong person happen to see or hear about it.
So, my take is... if you're looking for "drift practice", our event is not what you're looking for. If you're looking to actually autocross (to "grip it up" with us, if you will) and happen to get a little loose here and there, that's fine. Just don't come with the express intent of drifting the autocross course.
Also, to allow this sort of thing, even if you're an outstanding drifter who can repeatedly "combo" the entire course and never tap a cone, sets a bad precedent. We'll end up with a bunch of the um... "less talented" drifter wannabe's expecting the same priviledge, and it gets disruptive in a hurry.
Of course, I guess what Jamie specifically said applies. Not disrupting the event, not causing a safety problem... I'd just add "not making a noticeable spectacle" that could be problematic for the club's relationship with SPC.
