June 2011 Event

Postby Loren » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:21 pm

What? No post-event thread?

What a great day! Gotta love it when you can get started super-late, still get in 7 runs, and be done by 4pm! Steve's course was great, too!

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

How cool was that?
The course turned out a heckuva lot better than I expected. I'll take credit for the bones, but Brian, Drew and Loren all had a hand in the fine tuning and the course really did turn out great. :lust: It was quick and smooth, and despite pre-event concerns we kept everyone safely under the speed limits set by the airport and our insurance company.

Very smooth team effort today led to those 7 runs mentioned above, and really good coursework helped keep things going smoothly. We haven't played with the PA system in a while, and that added to the fun factor, I think.

I took some fun rides today - thanks guys! And Muddy reinforced the whole time/distance thing for me and found me a half second I had been unable to come up with myself. I've really gotta work on that...

As far as lunch goes, I guess a little pizza goes a long way when it's hot out. I know some folks weren't pleased there was no plain cheese or even a vege pie or two - an oversight on our part that we'll be more on top of next time. Also as far as lunch goes, I"ll be making some additions to the website and will start a new thread to share them - so if anyone was planning to comment on food, please wait until I get the new thread going in a little while, and then feel free to comment there - let's not get the post-event thread off-topic, please. :notworthy:

Simply fantastic event today. I was long overdue and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Thanks to all those that helped with teardown, that was one of the fastest I've ever been a part of, which is always super nice in the summer at Brooksville.

How about some video?
My best run, which I thought I pooched...hence my laughing.

A different view...my second fastest run.

Will miss ya'll next month at SPC, but I'll hopefully see ya at the FAST club event in August and for more events next season.

Now, back to 24hrs of LeMans coverage!!!!!

Awesome event ! Best ever ! I can't remember a event that was run so perfectly, I guess the chairs for those event were superior in every way. :chuckle:

Seriously it turned out to be a great day, and there's no way it could be pulled off without a.ton of help from others, I thank you all very much that helped out today from.the chair right down to the course workers.

Had a blast driving the course, once Loren used his Jedi mind driving instructions and got me settled down I ended up with a couple good last runs. I'm still a member of the "drive hard, buy dinner" club, but if i can finish within .5 sec of Loren, its a tiny personal victory.

Sorry about the awards, I was planning on passing them out before the drivers meeting, but we were running late. Then I was going to pass them out at lunch, but I got busy and forgot again. Anyhow I will bring all of them to the next event, and if you really want it now, PM me and we will work something out.

Also Steve incorrectly said I was running on street tires while I was sitting at the line there. We've been running Kumho 710's for a while now. I wish those were street tire times. :)

Thank you Brian and Steve for putting on such a great event! Great coarse with plenty of run times and challenging in all the right places.

Special thanks to John Evans, you made my day with your generosity in allowing me to help scrub the new tires! :-D

I had a good time with the new-to-me car today even though I did have the boiling over issue. Hopefully I'll have it sorted out by next month. :headscratch:

I have to say, it is fun to have a bit more oomph at the other end of the skinny pedal.

Thanks to everyone involved for putting on another great FAST event. See you next month!

Don't beat yourself up to much, you looked like you were doing well but for some reason you kept clipping the first cone going out. Maybe your tires are to wide ? ;)

Steve designed 99.9% of the course, my only input was I didn't want a crossover and I wanted the turn around to ne more of a chute than it turned out to be. It was still a fun, though I wish it was narrower and a bit longer, but oh well, it was still better than the usual 180 degree u-turn around we normally have.

Also I'm not sure the course workers out at the end heard me shout apologies to them as I was creaming cones after I went off course. I'm honestly sorry to put you through the extra work that wasn't needed. :(

That's seriously what I think it is. In April I coned almost every run as well. I need to remember the tires are a couple of inches wider than the body. There's always next month. :thumbwink:
