Fantastic Event, once again. Great course Jamie, it was short, sweet, and a BLAST in the rain!!!
For those that didn't make it, the rain was FUN!

Re: Sept SPC 2011
Yes, it was a great day. I had a blast! For a first timer, I think I did pretty decent with a best of 31.6 or something like that, and in the rain to boot!
Eric, it's amazing how slow your car looks in the video, but I was there and know for a fact you were tearing it up. I can't believe how that Vette grips in the rain. I wanted to ask for a ride, but never got a chance. Maybe next time.

Thanks Jamie for putting on another great FAST event. Thanks Loren for all your coaching. Here's my take on it - Pulling Out a Win!

Hope this link works.
I'd also like to encourage as many of my FAST friends to come to Sebring on Sept. 24 to cheer Loren and I and the Eurotrash Team on to victory in the 14 hour CHUMP race.
See you in October.

Re: Sept SPC 2011
Not so much a problem with people leaving as not getting themselves out there when we started looking for workers. Also had a number of people -- regulars all -- who weren't really listening during the drivers meeting when I very carefully explained how we changed from three run groups to four, so to ignore the pre-printed group assignments....so they worked the wrong groups (and got to work a second one, too). I should have crossed out the old groups, so the message would take hold. I appreciate the people who stepped up and filled in when needed. I appreciate the others, too -- no one ducked work.... If we continue to get 80-car turnouts, we'll see more of four groups.Blacknot wrote:Had a great time out today despite the rain. Unfortunate alot of people left instead of working the 4th run group.
The practice of assigning corner captains seems to be working pretty well,
but we're going to have to review radio procedure again. Several timing shifts mentioned they'd get radio calls that didn't identify the station, or didn't identify the car, or both...makes their job tough when there's two cars on course and they don't know which one to assign the penalty to, or where to look!
Glad everyone enjoyed the course, in spite of the weather. I hate short courses -- the next one I do will be longer.

Thanks also to Ed, and Jim and Liz, for chasing parts to fix my brakes...I'd have had less fun without all your help!

Re: Sept SPC 2011
We haven't run since May, so it was great to be back out.
Whoever ordered the food, it was awesome. I heard a lot of rave reviews about the food.
Thanks to all for another well-executed event, especially in light of the fact you allowed so many walk-ons.
As a worker in the timing booth, I would like to say that we also had a terrible problem with some people on the radio. Sounded like they had the radio waaaay too close to their mouths. When asked to repeat the info, they would yell louder, which made it worse. With cars going off so quickly, any garbled or missing info was quite trying.

Here's some pics taken from the event:

I am surprised by my times. Going from 2nd-to-last to 4th in my class is a real shocker. Money well spent on tires, I must assume.
Thanks to everyone for the great event.

Re: Sept SPC 2011
That's a good question. If it's next fastest time you get 3rd. If it's fastest average looks like i get 3rd.
Hey computer guys...how does the software figure this...and do we do it that way too?
edit: I'd go for demolition derby as a death match...lol!

Racing against my NEON is like getting in a fight with a girl, if you win you, you can't brag about it, and if you lose, you hope nobody finds out!

Re: Sept SPC 2011
Yes it was a very good event.
Jamie did a great job as "Chair" to start the event moving, and Ron got the trailer on site on time, and John Evans was also on site and on time to unlock (and lock) the gate. All of them, and a few others, we have to thank were on site at 7am.
I have to give John and Dave a huge shout out for handling regitration, and dealing with all the "walk ups", we had quite a few, I think close to 20 ?. You guys did a great job handling all the extra drivers, and letting Jamie know how many we had so he could figure out the run groups.
Weather was a issue during the mid second run group, and through most of the 3rd, but I think most people know that we live in Florida and rain is a problem. From what I could see, everyone was having a good time.
Thank you to everyone that stayed after the event and helped reset the course; I'm not sure who all of you were, but THANK YOU
I think passing out the awards after the event went well, and it was fun, and I hope it continues to be that way.
I ran in the second run group, and got maybe 3 "dry" runs, but it was fun to just let the car "GO" in the rain and see how far I could let her rip through the turns before the rear end broke out. Kinda neat.
My friend Dan ran for the very first time in a Auto-X, and I have him hooked ! He has a hard time believing that "slower is faster"
I think we might be seeing a little more of him at future events.

Demolition derby cage/death match it is! Bring the Bactine, we're going to need it!
Thanks for the praise, Brian. I would like to apologize to the walk-ups (20!) for my lousy handwriting. I spelled your names correctly, I just didn't write them so the data entry people could put you in the computer correctly.
Greg, Zuzy looks completely natural behind the wheel. Future autocrosser, without a doubt!

Re: Sept SPC 2011
Regarding ties, I'm not sure how the software handles it. It's not 2nd fastest time, because John's was faster. I doubt that it's average time. It's probably just chronological, the first one to get that time wins. As in "I laid it down, it's up to you to BEAT it". Or "I'm the better driver because I was able to get that time with fewer runs."
I'm inclined to leave it as is, simply because it's a lot easier than trying to manually manipulate ties when they occur. (which isn't often)
