What an outstanding course today, I liked the cross over and run the loop twice. I would have paid extra for another run or two today! Thanks for an outstanding day auto-xing!

Fun course. I would like to thank the organizers, course workers, my mom, my chief mechanic Charles, God, and all the people that beat me and did not rub it in my face.

Re: Post 11-13 SPC Event
I had a great time, wish I took more pics, but I ended up riding a lot more.
I gotta work on my slaloms, I feel those are giving me trouble, I need to practice those, losing a lot of time there, Definitively going to do another autox. It was great talking to everyone and getting pointers
I am currently uploading my pics to fb and will probably post the public link for them.

Re: Post 11-13 SPC Event
I have to admit that I had an attitude about this course (and still do, because it was hard for novices to follow), but it really was a fun course to drive! Or maybe I'm just enamored with my "new" Miata?
Jamie and Brian put on a well-run event, as always.
Oh, and Ron and I have been discussing some potential ways to reduce the timing problems. Much of the problem today, we believe, was due to the distance of both the start AND the finish from the trailer. Our directional antenna can handle ONE of the timer heads being quite a distance away, but that requires the OTHER one to be closer. In this case, the start was about 200' and the finish was close to 300'. Anyway, we continue to learn the quirks of our timing system and we're working on it!
Edit: And I'd also like to thank Jeremy's Mom.

Re: Post 11-13 SPC Event
Thanks to all. I really enjoyed the course. Wish we could have had at least 5 runs. For all the time we wasted in run group 4, we could have had 5 runs each and ended at the same time, if everything had gone smoothly. Yeah, yeah, I know, nothing ever does.
Just have to apologize to everyone in the last run group. The timing system was giving us fits. I'm sure everyone thinks the people working timing were idiots, but I've worked timing several times, and it's never been so bad as it was today. The system was not registering starts, not registering finishes and extending times to the next car to cross the finish, tripping phantom times, omg. The system had a mind of its own today.

Re: Post 11-13 SPC Event
A secondary timing problem that we seem to have hit late in the day today was the sun getting low enough in the sky to trigger false starts. Figure that this is probably the first time we've run this late in the day (from a sundial perspective) since we've had this timer, so it's the first time we've experienced it.
We also lost 15-20 minutes to waiting for a "full-course" coolant spill to sufficiently dry in the last run group. So, yeah... stuff happens.
Thanks for sticking it out, Eva! Timing is a stressful place to be sometimes.

Who cares? I got 2 re-runs 'cuz of it...puncturina wrote:The timing system was giving us fits. I'm sure everyone thinks the people working timing were idiots, but I've worked timing several times, and it's never been so bad as it was today.
Seriously, no one thinks y'all were idiots - word of why an event is held up spreads pretty quickly - we all knew it was timer equipment issues, not operator error.
The course was quite fun to drive - good flow and rewarded good car placement and thinking/looking ahead. But it also tripped up a lot of folks. And not just noobs, and not just at the crossovers/decision-points.
I had a great time today. Very nice to see everyone, tag along for a few rides, and just hang out 'til that 4th run group. First chance I had to really work out my new suspension, and I'm pleased so far. Now I just gotta make a few adjustments and learn to drive it better...

NO ONE thinks anything ill of the timing people! We all realize that our timing system has quirks that need to be ironed out. Thank you for putting up with our quirks on your watch. Despite the lapse in activity, I had a great time. The coarse was interesting and fun. Wish we could have gotten more runs but that's always the case!puncturina wrote:Just have to apologize to everyone in the last run group. The timing system was giving us fits. Re: Post 11-13 SPC Event
Can't get to my PC so I have to post from my phone short and sweet.
Thank you for everyone that helped out today, all of you were great, didn't here one complaint about who had to do what or they weren't doing it etc.
No one thought that the people working timing were at fault for the timing delays. Like Steve said, some of us got extra runs
!
I will post more tomorrow when I can use my PC, and thanks again for everyone that pitched in from start to finish, you all are awesome !

Loved the course. Top ten finish for me today, first time ever. Congrats to Bill on FTD. Any excuses I had that involve blaming my equipment have now evaporated.

Thanks Jamie for laying out a fun and challenging course for SPC! Was a great time as always! My mother-in-law couldn't have had more fun if she wanted to. It's always fun to be able to share the experience.
Whoa, just a tad wide here. Thanks Andrew for the pix!
