June 9

Postby Native » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:06 pm

What, I'm the only one with no plans on a Saturday night?

A big Well-Done! to the entire team. From the chairs, to the courseworkers, timers, even the guy who ran the drivers' meeting - the event went along quite smoothly. Really enjoyed the course, and was semi-pleased with my driving for a change (thanks, Loren).

I liked the course very much - lots of turns, but nice flow - especially if you took the right line!

Sorry about the rain - kinda comes with the territory...

Brian and Dan put on a great event in spite of the weather. I thought the course was a bit on the "overly technical" side when I reviewed it (and we did loosen up a few things... and at setup Brian opted to eliminate a gate after the turn-around to open it up a little more there), but it actually wasn't bad at all. The more you considered proper placement of the car, the more speed you could maintain. But, if you got greedy and tried to take too much speed in the wrong place, then you'd have to nail the brakes and lose your rythm. Very cool course.

I just wish the forecast hadn't said "cloudy" all day so I'd have worn sunscreen. I'm toasty!

Waiting for Gerry to email the results to me...

Dan and I would like to thank everyone that made today's event a success ! :thumbwink:

If it wasn't for everyone pitching in and helping out, from set up to tear down there is no way these FAST events could run as smoothly as they do.

Also want to give a huge thanks to the course workers on the 3rd run group. They all showed up and worked in the rain and I didn't hear one complaint from them. :notworthy:

The course was fun, though I wish I could have gotten a few more dry runs, but you can't control mother nature. Overall very tired after today and looking forward to SPC in July.

Nice Scott! Should've taken the left side of the slalom on the way out.

Had a great time today. I loved the course. I need to buy a camera, OR John could post some runs from the other mini beast, please.

Surprisingly, I don't think there was necessarily all that much time difference between left or right in the first slalom. I thought the left seemed like the way to go and it drove easier... but my fastest runs were going right.

John should have some video of some of my runs. Unfortunately, he turned the camera on at some point and forgot to turn it off. So, he's got video of some of my runs plus a lot of in-between that he'll have to edit down. He's out being the loving husband this evening, so it could be a while before we see them.

I did consider that, but it looked like it would be a longer route, and with the lack of hp / acceleration, i thought the right side in was the quicker way . :dunno:

I just watched a bunch of sloppy wet videos of both me and Dan and the last 2 videos don't look half bad. Though as we watched the runs go from soaking wet to pretty dry, we noticed a few slalom cone placement moved. We totally understood that all the cone chalk lines were washed out, and the course workers did the best they could do, so what can you do ? :dunno:

We had fun anyhow, and I will upload a wet and dry run. 8-)

Here is my best run...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jXB-ULdRx0
48.2 + 1 cone, I had no clean runs. Would have been nice to have the FTD but since Elliott's car broke it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

That run was super sloppy too, could have been low-mid 47's with a better drive.

I shot all of that video in upside down mode, too. It's going to be fun. The old MacBook is slow and the hard drive is full.

You've been doing this a long time Jeremy. Quit being so stubborn. You just need to admit how terrible you are and maybe have some instructors ride with you. There is no shame in accepting help.
I mean, look how far from those cones you were! If you continue to suck like that you will develop bad habits that will be hard to break. :whip:

I've only done 3 events this year and probably won't do another one for 3 more months. This has been my slowest autocross season ever. Some years I would have done 12 events by now. Then you would see some fast runs. :)

Another great event down! The car and new tires did great, the driver, not so much. I don't think I was ever NOT behind on any of the slaloms. Just tried to carry too much speed. Once again, I should have just put the car in 2nd and left her alone too. I'll actually doing for once at Brooksville someday.

Played around with settings on the camera, so only a handful really came out the way I planned.

Thanks to all for another fun event. The course was great, even without the pin turn...

Whether it was planned or not, thanks for putting our class in the first run group so we were able to get done early. Doug had to go to work later in the day, so it worked out great (not to mention the rain factor!).

And last, thanks to Bob Tamandli for being on vacation. At last glance, I think I was in first place in class. :rolling: My first first. Waiting for final results before I celebrate.
