Car Number policy for Split Events
Well, it looks like the split event concept is going to stick around for a while. And that's all well and good, but it does create a bit of a headache with car numbering because we can't duplicate numbers from the Early Session to the Late Session. (because timing considers both to be the same event, and requires unique car numbers)
What I'm wondering is if maybe we could come up with some sort of numbering "policy" that would prevent all or most of the duplicates. Presently, I have to compare the Early and Late entry lists and manually resolve any conflicts in the afternoon event... which ends up being close to half of the entries. In addition to being a pain to do, I'm sure most people would like to know that the number they were assigned when they registered is the number they'll actually get at the event!
Obviously, people with permanent numbers* would be exempt from the policy. Your perm number is your perm number. (but if you run both sessions with your perm number, we'll have to prefix it with a 9 in the computer for the afternoon)
For those without a perm number... is there a way we can restrict the morning session to a certain set of numbers and the afternoon to a different set of numbers?
Something like, maybe... last digit 1-5 for the morning and last digit 6-0 for the afternoon?
Think that would work? I'm open to other (simple) ideas.
* - Permanent Numbers: Since we have a lot of new people, here's how that works. Before the end of the current season, we'll open up the permanent number list (in the form of an "event" in the registration system) for the next season. For a fee (usually $20), you can reserve any number that is available (previous number holders have dibs on their number for a while) for that season. Here's the current Permanent Number List.

But if you hoped to be number uno...you would always have to register for the AM portion. Those in the PM event would always be second class...

The odd and even number secessions would be a good solution. And if you need to have a certain number to help keep your Chi in balance more power to you...lol.

Permanent number holders can run whenever, because there's no danger of a duplicate.Greg wrote:What about perm number holders for the next season?

If you gotta have a certain number, you just need to grab it as a permanent number at the beginning of the season. Then it's always yours.Tim_M wrote:But if you hoped to be number uno...you would always have to register for the AM portion. Those in the PM event would always be second class...
Greg, we usually start worrying about next season's permanent numbers somewhere around July. Before the last event of the season. Gotta have it all sorted out (for those who care) before the first event of next season, which is in September... but it's way too early to be worrying about it NOW.

OK for some reason I was thinking even permanent number holders would need to go with the new system...

Re: Car Number policy for Split Events
It's impossible for anyone who isn't you to duplicate your Permanent Number, so it's a non-issue.
I guess I can throw out one more "what if"... what if a driver doesn't have or want a permanent number, but has a couple of odd numbers at their disposal... say... 3's and 7's. Forcing them to choose an even number would suck. (for them) Is that enough of an issue to even worry about?
Another option might be to let the early folks use numbers ending in two digits 49 and under, and late folks 50 and over. That spreads the even/odd wealth, at least.
Admittedly, though, the odd/even idea would be the easiest to implement.
Not to put any pressure on, but I need to come to a decision on this by about Wednesday when registration for May opens.

Nope. Not worth the worry. Blue tape. Fair enough. I guess that settles it.
Even numbers for Early.
Odd numbers for Late.

Since El Presidente's word is bond, how can you possibly change it to even-morning, odd-after?Native wrote:odd numbers morning

Since I use an odd number and I'm a cheapskate, I vote for a decree to change it back to Il Papa's original suggestion. It is pure blasphemy to defy his word. Shame!!!

Re: Car Number policy for Split Events
Here's the deal... I know everybody and their brother is going to ask me "I'm signing up for the early session, do I need odd or even numbers?" So, I wanted to be able to easily REMEMBER. Early = Even. I can remember that.
That was my entire thought process. But, it's done. The Poobah's decree, as modified by the Registrar's whim.
Since you have an odd number and you're a cheapskate... you should register Late.
