well I am working on a new site proposal package in that I hope to be able to show a good history of using both secure (brooksville) and Police trainning areas (SPC)

To me the advantages are excelent control of site access
use of isolated areas (no neighbors to complain of noise)
driving pad/training areas are specially designed for this type of acticvity.
the Tampa site looks very centrally located

Disadvantages
I don't know if the second (Hilsborough County) site is conveniant for everyone, its kinda out there but prob not any further than SPC to most.

All good benefits, but the greatest benefit is:
another usable autocross site in our arsenal

We only have two sites available, and both are "finicky" at best. One or both of them could go away for us on someone's whim. Even if we don't "need" another site right now, it's good to have them available. Schedule an event there occasionally just to keep the relationship with the site owner. The day will very likely come when that kind of "back-up" site becomes a "primary" site.

Brooksville will likely be developed as an industrial complex sometime within the next 5-10 years. SPC is talking about repaving (not just resealing) and could very well raise our rental rates again.

While not "central", it's not any worse than brooksville or SPC. We have people coming from all over so it's not that big of a deal IMO. Better than a lakeland location probably.

To get to the HCSO site from the north you just take 75 to the riverview/gibsonton exit, head towards riverview, continue on that road until it ends at Lithia pinecrest, take a right, get to 39, take a right, then take a right on whatever road the HCSO site is at. About as long off the beaten path as brooksville is coming the I-75 route. From the south, i-75 north to big bend/apollo beach exit, head towards riverview, right on balm riverview which is/becomes 672, left on 39, left into the site. That way might be quicker for both, I'm in brandon and could do the timing/distance/directions for both routes if that one becomes an option.

The tampa one is more centrally located for sure though, but would be a haul for a number of members too. :)

well unfortunately I see less resistance from the Lakeland site above as the city has allowed autocross events in the past and several car companies put on driving events at the other lakeland site metioned earlier in the thread.

BUT we won't know unless we try.

Those sites sure are great possibilities - and I don't think there's any such thing as "out of the way." Shoot, some folks drive to Brooksville from Sarasota!

TracAction's got a draft of the site package in the works, and he's doing a great job! If anyone wants to chime in with a "don't forget about this" suggestion, do it here! But don't wait too long, the ball is rolling. 8)

Here is a thought

what if we allow a special class when we use an agency training center to allow that departments police package cars to compete maybe give some free spots or charge like 5 to cover lunch.

it could be sold to the agencey as on the idea of a free training oportunity and COULD MAYBE grease the way to allow our use.

I doubt that they'd be interested in that, though it's not a bad thing to offer. If they're not already set up to "rent" the pad, one way in is to get them to "allow" us to use the pad in exchange for a donation to their recreational fund or something similar. This is how we got use of the AFB site in Wichita. We didn't actually "rent" the site, but we made an annual donation equivalent to ~$500 per event to the base "MWR" agency.

I think they wouldn't be interested because they would be scared of getting showed up by lowely miatas. 8)

just thought it might be good to have a plan to go with so we don't just get a NO ... if they have something to gain then they have something to loose. ..... mostly it is all going to be the ability to pitch the idea to the RIGHT person.

Ok I have an OFFICIAL offer to use this site in the comming year rental of the site is no problem ... just no bathroom may have to rent a portalet type deal or there are PLENTY of places near by. The price is possibly some what negotiable So what do you guys think. The pavement is practically new. The biggest work around is the detroit tigers spring trainning sched and base ball games.

first avliable date/ time is first weekend in April

Let me know when registration is open. I'll be there.
No light poles in that lot?
It actually looks to be about 400X500, even better.

Any word on the Police sites in Tampa?

nice work!

I'm also interested in the two police lots in Tampa and the one outside riverview area..

And the USF lot.. :) Although 3 sites is probably enough, but if one of the other sites is bigger than SPC it may be worth switching?

there are 6 (i think) well spaced poles in the Lakeland Site but easy work arounds.

the TPD site is next on my list pretty sure that would be avliable on Sundays

I found out that TPD has leased the driving pad site to Hillsborough Community College for their police academy this plays well to us as we already have a good relationship with SPC. Working on it = )

Well the HCC director stated no private party can rent/lease/or use property.

and the HCSO Major is all am lacking for clearance on the that site but he is on vacation for the week. Which is good I'll prob go see him in person and take a site plan with references from SPC specifically in the next week or 2.

So in the mean time I can get my cones in a row and maybe Frank or someone can look over it all over so I can get it together for the Lakeland site if we decide to go that route and have everything together in nice packet for the HCSO Major too!

So what is everyones thoughts on all that?

That's awesome, man - that site looks terrific. I guess all we need to do is actually negotiate the rate, and get a baseball schedule! Renting a portolet can't be too terrible...I'll be in touch.

Indeed! Having a few extra sites will add some variety to the schedule and the type of courses we can run. Also, having some events over by the Tampa area may attract some of the other people who may be reluctant to drive to SPC or Brooksville.
