SPC 4-12-14 Post Thread

Postby Solar » Sat Apr 12, 2014 7:40 pm

Results ? :snicker:

Another fun FAST event, really enjoyed the course, wish I could've drove the final turn into the finish faster, but I didn't have a big enough pair to do it. Good job by Greg showing most all of us how it's done while driving a car that didn't look to be put all back together after his wreck. :thumbwink:

Thanks to all that helped with tear down and resetting the course, I believe we were packed up and handed out awards by 5 pm.

I mentioned this to Loren, I think we should think about buying a headset or ear piece for the starter. It's hard for the starter to hear anyone from the timing trailer with cars on the line and noise from the cars on the course. Sometimes when timing needs to hold the start, or ask them to stagger the start; they can't hear the timing crew. It wasn't a big issue today, but it could be in the future, and I know this wasn't the first time at a event we had communication issues between the starter and timing.

Thanks to "Gary Frenandez" for showing me how to run timing, it's been a long time since I've worked it, and I learned a lot today.

Very fun day, looking forward to the next one !

It was an especially great day! Fantastic AutoX and when home a sunset with a confirmed Green Flash!! Only the second time in my life actually seeing one, Mary's first. One for the books.

The course was a blast, wish I had trusted the torque of 3rd gear a little earlier :bangwall: thanks to all that made it happen!

What a great event back at SPC. Who in the fleet of mustangs do I send the bill to after I get my hearing checked? :director: :digusted:
I loved the start gate and the turn into the slaloms.

Thanks to Nathan for the very impressive almost 360 spin in front of us. That was exciting :) :thumbwink:

I found a broken hunk of aluminum walking the course between the 1st and 2nd slalom cones. " looks suspension, motor mountish"
This was after the morning 1st run group. I'll post a pic. May want to check your cars in 1st run if it feels "funny"

Another fun event! Can't wait to see where i ended up at the end of the day.

Unfortunately i have no iPhone data (harry's lap timer software SUCKS!) and my gopro is acting up! Spoke to them and their sending me a new unit :)

Nice smooth run Eric! Looks like you had some fun on the finish straight.

Great fun as always...FAST runs a well coordinated operation.

Course was slow and fast-paid dividends as stated above, if you carried your speed from back 'straight' to the finish line!

SPC should really have the word slippery within the acronym...AWD loved it.

Awesome seeing the clubs attend-hopefully all will return at future events. Wish more Subaru took part...strike that...one is enough.

Thanks. Looks like you were killing the field again today. Saw you posting some nice times. I'll post a couple of the more fun vids later. The course was a handful for my car/ tires today. In still surprised I didn't spin it today

Great event, gang! The extra help at the end of the day was much appreciated. 9+ hours in the sun was taking its toll on me, I was beat!

Glad everyone liked the course. I wish I'd have taken the time to walk the course at least once from a driver's perspective. (I walked it once with Dave for final safety, but that's not the same) If I had, I'd have probably seen the "cheater line" that a couple people (most notably Greg Antonyants) found through the last turn. I was driving it as it needed to be driven the LAST time we ran this course... where the inside cone-wall didn't allow as much short-cutting. Oh, well. Good job, Greg! And another one that you should all be scratching your head over is Gerry Hernandez... 30.9... in a bone stock Mazda 2.

But, what I really want to know is... when are the results going to be posted?

Oh, right... they already are!

Yup, I wish I would've had just enough faith in myself you push my car harder through that turn, I know my car has a ton of grip and would make it. I just wussed out.

Here's my best run of the day, 39th overall. :|

I knew this had been discussed before:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=991&hilit=headsets

I want to say we got as far as to actually price them at one point and ultimately decided that it wasn't worth it. FAST and it's many previous incarnations has been putting on autocrosses for something like 15 years without needing headsets (and I suspect that the same can be said for most autocross clubs across the country), I think we can get by without. I don't mean to sound like a "that's the way we've always done it" stick-in-the-mud. I'm all for improving things. I'm just not sure I'm behind this idea. (mainly because it's been brought up, discussed and investigated before... due diligence has been done, y'all just don't remember and/or weren't in the loop when we looked into it)

Often times radio calls are missed because the person on the other end of the radio isn't paying attention to the radio. I saw this very thing happen at the starting line today. *I* was talking to Les about where to start cars, distracting him from listening to the radio, and thus he missed a "hold start" call. It happens.

If you're having trouble hearing the radio, holding it up to your ear is a very effective solution. Nobody who has a work assignment that requires a radio is doing anything that prevents them from doing just that. Corner captains don't have to run. Grid chiefs and starters can do their job with just one hand.

Almost forgot:

Congratulations to Team Mazda for winning the "Bring Your Friends" challenge with 24 entries (17 Miatas), barely beating out the Ford guys with their 22 entries (19 Mustangs!). The random Girl Scout Cookie box drawing turned up the following three Free Event Entry winners:

Anthony Briody
Konnor Briody
Josh Rector

(If I hadn't seen it myself, I'd have thought the Briody's bribed somebody... but they didn't!)
