May 31 - FAST Classic at Brooksville

Postby Loren » Sun May 11, 2014 7:11 pm

Registration is open for this one. Closes May 25.

We've limited registration to 45 entries this time so that we can ensure 4-5 runs on the absurdly long course that we have planned. The design is almost done, out for safety approval right now. If I didn't make it too loose, it should be about a 90-second course.

Did I mention registration is open?

Used to have to have the roster in two Fridays preceding...if the airport's shortened their lead time, that reflects well on our events and everyone's conduct.

Sophia graduates the day before, so family commitments over the weekend. We'll catch up with everyone at the end of June.

Yeah, Steve begged and pleaded and got them to agree to let us submit the access list on Monday. Gives people another weekend to register... assuming the event doesn't fill up before that. Which hasn't happened in a while, but used to happen very regularly.

Lots of graduations this time of year. We missed several people at the last event due to graduations. A necessary evil, I suppose!

Assuming these times are accurate for this event, everyone will need an earlier alarm clock.

Begin End
Setup 7:00 9:00
Registrat 7:45 8:15
Tech 8:15 9:15

Haven't we normally been running registration until 8:45 or so on the previous classic events? I've only been to one so...............

The schedule for this event is exactly the same as the schedule from the last Brooksville Classic event. It took us a few events to get it figured out, but it works.

In a nutshell: If you're not doing setup, be there at 8:00! (plus or minus 15 minutes)

We'll have cars running by 9:30, lunch at noon, and be done and gone by 2:30.

Registered - a long course should be a good time!

Isn't about time we looked at a course map? Yeah, I thought so.

I'm guessing the map is based the nautical term, " red, right, return" , then back to the left to finish ?

I known nothing of nautical terms, but it seemed necessary to differentiate the outgoing line from the return line on the map. The course itself should be easy to follow when we set it up.

This should be a really fun course.

It's does look like a fun course, and from my guesstimate it's about 2/3rd's of a mile long !

Is it one lap or multiple laps? Trying to figure out how it's 100 sec long?

If I'm counting correctly I think there are more Mustangs than Mazdas registered?

I was hoping for 90+ seconds, but it might not be that long because I opted not to make it "slow". We'll see. Moving the grid, start and finish back as far as possible (without impeding the path to the port-a-potty) and running as far down the far end as possible, this course is about as long as we can make it. If it ends up being much shorter than I hope, we'll probably end up getting an extra run on it, so it's all good.

This will be a single-lap course. We're doing a multi-lap Enduro in August.

Yep, more Mustangs than Miatas. Don't know what's up with that. :headscratch:

Boo ! I can't see any reason why the course can't be LONG ? Why not ?

I signed up for a long course, and have told others that it will be a long course.

Doing what I can, Brian. But, until we actually drive it, I can't say how long it will be.

As you can see from the map, we're using all of the space that is available to us. We can't encroach on the cycle training pad, not even for parking or grid. Those guys simply don't share (and we don't know that they won't be training on the day of our event, anyway). And we can't go any further on the far end, this takes us all the way to the limit.

The only way to get more time than this would be to do multiple laps (which extends start interval from the time of one half lap to the time of one complete multi-lap run less one half lap at best... it's the Enduro format, which takes special planning), or to slow the course down so that it's simply tighter and slower.

So, tell me, Brian... what exactly are you implying that I should do? My only error here was in (maybe) overestimating the time of this course. It WILL be quite a bit more time than our typical course.

You could have a contingency add-on. If the motorcycle guys aren't there, back that thang up.

Can't do that. They are VERY protective of their painted lines. They want us nowhere near them. Even if they are not using it.

Sent from my phone. Expect more errors than usual!
