New mustang for the stock class

Postby jmdoc66 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 10:38 am

I've decided to give the Shelby a break and try a new car. It's a fox body, completely stock except for a little weight reduction. I know Fast is ok with a modification or two and allowing the car to stay in the stock class, so I'm hoping my weight reduction of the car doesn't kick me out of stock. Please see the pictures and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
MIke

No pictures.

The rules just aren't that complicated, Mike:
http://drivefast.org/rules/stock-category/

You can ADD bolt-on stuff that is not restricted. You can't weld braces.

The only thing you can remove are "insignificant" trim pieces. (the intent there is that if you have a broken off door handle or something, you're okay)

If you've got a car that has had "weight reduction", unless the weight reduction is in the form of allowed mods like lightweight wheels, aluminum driveshaft, lightweight shocks and control arms and such... it's probably not going to fit. But, the rules are clear. You should be able to answer your own question.

Pro tip- "Fox body" is NOT a thing!
The fox platform is the chassis, which was first used in the 1978 Ford Granada and underpinned all Mustangs through 2004. It has nothing specifically to do with the 82-93 body style that it is commonly and erroneously associated.
Hope you have enjoyed Drew's nerdly tip of the day. :geek:

So to call the 94-97 mustang a SN-95 and the 98-2004 mustang a new edge would be correct even though it still uses the a modified 'fox' chassis?
Then we get to the 2005-2013 mustang which is based on the S-197 chassis with is actually shared by a couple jaguar cars. It's an easy way to differentiate between the different body styles.

Kinda like inaccurately calling all adjustable wrenches 'crescent wrenches' or locking pliers 'vise grips'.

So instead of calling a 78-93 mustang a fox body, I will call mustangs of those years 'The body style of Drew's Freakin' mustang' :-D

Not trying to stir anything up, just trying to be funny.

I always called them understeering pigs. Yet, somehow, Drew managed to drive one fast. Freakin' Drew.

These things are all correct. Except Mustang should be capitalized. :snicker:

I had a Gremlin with that exact color scheme.
But it was only a 3.8...

Nice ride there!

Doug you can drive this car whenever you want. It's also a 6-spd. I am hoping to have the shifter replaced soon with one from MGW, because the Hurst that is in there now is awful.

Sorry, but you are wrong. The '78 was a Mustang II not a fox chassis.

Yep, I'm still keeping an eye on this forum to make sure these things don't happen. ;)

You are correct. The first Mustang on the fox chassis was '79. Actually, Wikipedia has both '78 and '79 as the first year of the Mustang on the fox chassis. But I thing '79 is more accurate.

Wikipedia also has the first year of the fox chassis as '77. My Mother had a '78 fairmont two door. What I wouldn't do to have that car now.
