Doing the Snowbird thing this Jan (2015) and I'm looking for co-drives. I autocross a lot during the Wisconsin season (ended in late October) typically driving a Honda Insight these days. The FAST Brooksville events on Jan 17 and 31 would be possibilities if someone(s) out there can accommodate a driving partner...
For background...I've been doing autocross since before 2000, driving a 1988 Fiero Formula for most of the 2Ks. Then started on Insights for the 201Xs. Lots of firsts for both cars, including season championships for my classes. Here are some brief videos on the track... This one is from a 7/19 (2014) AX event in Milwaukee (see 2min 25sec in) and this one is from a 10/12 event in Milwaukee (second car in the video). Lots of videos from inside the car(s) at Vimeo (example...look through for others). I am more than happy to share costs for co-drives ($100 or ??).
Thanks
B
PS...I've been considering acquiring an '06 Elise or an '04ish Vette Z06 someday, so it would be great to find that kind of co-drive, though not too many of either of those in your '14 results that I see...also curious about stock S2000s and AWDs (Subes and Mitsus). But pretty open to options...

I'd think that would be more than enough to cover the costs of 6 or 8 runs in just about anything. Where's Les?bluesight wrote:I am more than happy to share costs for co-drives ($100 or ??).

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Sadly, with the towing costs, 110 octane fuel, and the R25 compound Hoosier slicks, $100 is pretty close to the break even point of 6 runs in the Vee. I have been itching to bring the vette back out, though I'm still on the old ass tires. I might could be persuaded to bring it out to Jan 31 and we would probably cord the rear tires in the process with two drivers at a classic event. I'm just not sure someone used to autocrossing an Insight is ready for such a car. I will say, it isn't a C5Z06, its much better than a stock C5Z06, I know because I had a C5Z06 before the C4.Loren wrote:I'd think that would be more than enough to cover the costs of 6 or 8 runs in just about anything. Re: Co-drives at FAST Brooksville Events Jan 17 & 31?
Les,
I agree that $100 is on the light side for "exotics", race rubber and towed/trailered rides. I've been doing some "stockish" RWD co-drives (FRS, S2000CR, Solstice GXP -- these worked out OK for $100 offerings), and the RWD Fiero back then. But it does take a bit of muscle memory to recall that you don't pull out of a slide by putting down gas, per FWD. Course, that didn't always help much with the Fiero...liked to loop...by nature.
I'd love to get into a Vette to check the fit. So if that would work for the 31st, please count me in. And I'm very flexible on sharing for the Vee, so just let me know on that for the 17th. But pretty soon. I should try to finalize options by the time reg opens, if I can.
Much appreciated

PS...I'll can send more background in a PM

Geezus Mike no more of that "background" check talk. I'd be banished for sure. Just check your family jewels at the door and certainly someone will let you co-drive. Kind of funny you want to be "vetted". Are you a Democrat?bluesight wrote:Les,
