POST Jan 17, 2015 EVENT

Postby twistedwankel » Sat Jan 17, 2015 9:08 pm

 What?? It's after 9pm and no one has posted results or attaboyed the troops?

Well that back stretch was a steep learning curve with torque and I over shot the herring bones the first time.

Managed to get a 2nd place sticker and Dave did great winning the S1 by .2 seconds. I think there was only .4 sec from 1-3rd a tight grouping and 14 drivers.

Thanks for all your hard work. I love that I got to sleep in today. I've got a video if I can figure out how to post it again?

Yes, I've worn out the refresh button :-D
Looking forward to the results for those of us in the morning session who were not there for the wrap-up.

Had a blast today. Loved the course and enjoyed meeting some more of the FASTees :thumbwink:

Great Time, Great People, Great Weather, Great Finish, can't ask for a much better day.

Thanks for all that helped pack up the trailer, myself and someone else were on tear down duty, but there must have been 6-8 people all chipping in. I remember the days of packing that thing up with no set way to load it; just the mentality to make it fit.

After many weeks of chasing problems with the car, it ran very well today, even sounds pretty good on video too. :)

Waiting UNPATIENTLY for the results. LoL. It was absolutely amazing. This was my first auto-cross ever and I couldn't be happier about it. I learned a lot from both of the instructors that rode along (I'm horrible with names) and I gained a second nearly every pass. I did not expect to place or anything like that. Just wanted to have fun but I am curious where I ended up. I hope to be there again in two weeks.

We all went and had BBQ and were there a little later than usual, that made for a long day for a couple people that were there. :snore:

I would say if you don't see the results by 10 or so, then it's a good chance they won't be posted until tomorrow . :dunno:

Y'all are just lucky I decided to post the results before taking a shower and crashing on the couch!

Results

There will be a revision whenever Ron gets around to it. The Z06 in S1 should have been in M0.

I'm gonna go take a shower now.

Good enough for 2nd in S1 today.

Imagine .2 seconds faster somewhere and that was the winner Dave.

^^^ That's for sure! Wish I was... still had a great day though.
So it was a long day, but nothing ran too late. Seemed to me that everyone was enjoying themselves, and that's what it's about.

Big thank yous to everybody who helped out today - as usual there were many of you so I'm not even gonna try to name everyone. Just remember it's a huge team and it can't happen without all of you! :>)

I'm dying to see some pix! Hint hint...all you photogs!

Okay, I got my shower. Scarfed some Cherry Garcia. Now I'm ready.

I say this after every event, but it's true: Steve and I might be the top dawgs of FAST, but there's no way we could do what we do without a whole bunch of people being willing to step in and help out in a hundred different ways at every event! Sincere thanks to each and every one of you.

This event brought with it 101 total entries. (and there were only 3 no-shows and one driver that opted out due to mechanical issues) Of those 101 entries there were 19 first-time and 5 second-time autocrossers. A lot of people might not realize the significance of that. And a lot of people might not care. But, FAST cares. A lot. And a whole bunch of experienced autocrossers pulled together to help us make sure that all of those noobs had a good time learning to autocross, and keep them all safe while working course. And the day went off almost perfectly! We had a little trouble trying to stay on-schedule (partly due to people getting lost on course a lot and lots of reruns, which is to be expected with that many novices... but, also due to just weird random stuff that happens), but at the end of the day we weren't more than 30-35 minutes late. So, on the whole, we have no complaints. Great event!

Thanks again to everyone for being awesome!

(How'd I do, Doug? :) )

Had a great time as usual. Certainly, I wished I'd driven better but that did not hinder the FUN!

My only clean run 53.797 *smh

My fastest dirty run 51.336 +2. This felt so good, I just clipped the first slalom cone and one in the finish funnel.

Looks like I need to pick up my game some, or start signing up in the afternoon! Great driving Dave and the Mayor to relegate me to third in S1. I thought I ran pretty well today, so basically happy with my time. Needed to be smoother through the little pincher turns before the fishbone though. Lost a lot of time there. Thanks for another great event FAST, can't wait until next month.

Some photos from the event:

I was much happier with my driving but I still need a lot of work on smoothness. Really had fun driving this layout. Not sure why I couldn't get in the 52s, I ran a 53.0 with a big slide at the end on my second run. I kept trying for more speed but I think I just wasn't looking in the right place and ended up slower. I was trying not to "push" the car so much and work with my tires.

I forgot to start my borrowed camera so I missed a few runs. This was run #2, #4, #5.

This time, the afternoon didn't seem to deliver much faster times than the morning. Of the top 10, six were from the afternoon session, but that also captured many of the race-tired cars. Of the top 20, 12 were from the afternoon session.

Most of it was M2 opening the whup-ass on the rest of the field.

I loved the course today, so much fun! After really sucking at the classic, I had to do a bit of a mental re-fresh. I was doing a pretty good job of sucking less, but struggled to push harder until my 4th and 5th run. I'd have paid a decent sum of money to get just one last run :whine:

It was great to see so many newbs out there today. Not sure whats brought the sudden surge of interest in the sport, but I'm glad that they're choosing FAST out of all the clubs in the area. To everyone who stepped up today to make sure the event went off without a hitch, THANK YOU!
