Those helicopter shots are cool! That was a strange sight. From the grid, it looked like it was landing on the end of our course, but it was actually at least 500 feet beyond that.matkub wrote:Magda got some interesting pics to share.

When we were out there, we thought the prop wash was going to blow some cones around. Been nice if he blew the cones towards the trailer when we were done.Loren wrote:Those helicopter shots are cool! My excuses for not beating Ron are:
Cooler weather in the morning meant faster runs.
I changed to a stiffer rear sway bar setting and I was getting wheel spin exiting the turnaround.
The sun was in my eyes.
Ron is a cheating cheaty cheater that cheats.

Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
Great fun as always.
Bummer for those in the rain...interesting seeing only half the runway wet and the start dry...and I had grabbed an umbrella for the sun when working the cones!
Enjoyed the tight turn around...
Big kudos for the posted images, Philip-nice work!
Amazing driving by Drew and Mario...and I've got such advantage with AWD...hmmm. I've got plans for upgrade stage III (Turbo!) with another 60 WHP by next event...likely make me even more out of control.

Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
it wasn't that tight, I just couldn't figure it out how to get through it smoothly without rolling over the front tire.
Yet I watch my video and the turn around doesn't look too bad when I approach it, and not carrying as much speed through the rest of the course is bothering me more

Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
that thing gave me fits. I just couldn't get the timing on it right. my video shows me making the turn after the first cone and having to correct back because the other cone was still seemingly miles away and I was gonna miss it. so much for looking a couple cones ahead. I'm with you Loren, that thing was not anything closely resembling tight, just awkward. I liked it though. Hell, I liked the whole course. my favorite so far.Loren wrote:Eh?Tim_M wrote:Enjoyed the tight turn around...![]()

Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
If you turned in too early for the turn-around (eg: you drove it wrong), then it could have been as tight as you made it. If you delayed your turn-in, it was an easy 100-foot diameter half-skidpad turn. Pretty typical Brooksville situation. Allowing for 12 feet off of the grass on either side, the absolute max diameter we can give you is about 125 feet.
The rest of the course was just a matter of placement and confidence. If you had the confidence to keep your right foot planted and were pretty close to where you needed to be, you could get through parts of this course VERY fast.
The trick to the turn-around was to pretend that there was another cone 40-50 feet beyond the "turn-in" apex cone. Turn in there, get out toward the wall of cones, apex the second apex properly and cruise on through it. For those who did the duel, the exact same turn was used on the opposite end of that course.

you told me about the invisible cone when we got there. The "false apex" is a common course designer trick. I hate it when I put something like that into a course and then *I* get bit by it. (happens more than I'd care to admit)

Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
Tight is right. General rule of thumb, if the course design allows for a choice of wide or tight lines, almost certainly the tight light is the right line. I'm not saying I did it exactly right and arguments can be made in the case of a low powered car with a long straight after the turn carrying more speed with a wider/longer line perhaps being a better choice. I've heard this from every national champion/trophy winner I've ever known. I'm almost certain adding 40-50 feet to the course will never be the faster way.Loren wrote: The trick to the turn-around was to pretend that there was another cone 40-50 feet beyond the "turn-in" apex cone. Re: March 14th Championship Post Event
This thread is very entertaining. Post-event trash-talk is fun, and the course discussion is good.
I had a really good day, thanks to everyone there, and enjoyed meeting some new folks, getting to see some others who haven't been around much, taking a bunch of rides, and generally just hanging out. Oh, and the driving was fun, too! I didn't necessarily drive well - I coned 3 of my runs (including my 41-flat "best run"), and I know why:

Just pure PHSL, of which I did neither...it's not the car, that's for sure, it's just that good ol' nut behind the wheel. And I gotta tell ya, the quality of driving this group is seeing these days has just exploded. Very cool.Loren wrote: The rest of the course was just a matter of placement and confidence. I will only admit to an exhaust and 173,000 miles on the little powerplant under hood.
Again-very nice times.

Championship Points have been updated. With 4 events left in the season, there is still much left undecided. And there's a FOUR WAY tie for first place in M2!
