April 24 - FAST Classic at Tampa Greyhound

Postby Loren » Mon Apr 04, 2016 12:02 pm

Our evolution of course design at the dog track continues! This month will be a variant of what we did last month with some strong similiarities in places, and wild departures in others. It's gonna be a good time!

Note that this is a SUNDAY event!

This is a Classic event, which means fewer entries, more runs and no formal novice instruction. We do require all entrants to have competed in at least 3 prior autocross events so that they sort of know what they're doing. And don't forget that our new sound restriction will be fully enforced.

Registration is open until April 20, but you know how it goes. Sometimes these events fill up early.

Guest registration is not required unless said guests want to partake of lunch with us. We won't buy lunch for you if we don't know you're coming!

What's the spectator situation at the dog track? Is there a place to watch from like there is at TBD?

Yes. Not like the patio with chairs and access to air con, but there's area outside the rope with some shade.

Just registered for this one. It's a Sunday so a no brainer fo me - at least I don't need to come up with a creative reason for missing another Saturday at work :)
Looking forward to it and hope I find a bit more finesse this time, I need to redeem myself to the course workers after all the exercise I gave them last time out. :salute:

And heeeeere's the course map!

The goal with this one was to take cues from the last one, but do something a little different. The last course required most drivers to shift from first to second, then back to first, then back to 2nd... and then back to first again before the finish. It was a really fun course, but that's a bit too much shifting to be doing very often! So, the course uses a similar first section, but without the long straight before the first left. This keeps speeds down and should keep drivers in first all the way through the first slalom, and hopefully all the way through the hairpin. Shift to second out of the hairpin, enjoy the fast slalom, and hopefully carry 2nd through to the finish. That's the plan... we'll see how it works.

I can't wait to try this layout. I'll be running a different different tire so maybe I'll like the surface more.

If you're headed toward a wall of cones, turn.

Registration for this event closes Wednesday. Get in while you can!

Also, since registration is kinda light, I'm thinking about maybe making two passes through the center section of this course to make the course longer rather than doing a bazillion runs. Thoughts?

I would be happy either way. I would like a bunch of runs, I need to learn how to drive this surface one of these events.
