May 7th Mother's Day Eve event is ALL over.

Postby twistedwankel » Sat May 07, 2016 1:17 pm

I didn't hear a single complaint all morning. Very few cone calls and very few off courses. Only 3 reruns. Hopefully the late session went even smoother with their 22 FN drivers.
It's awesome that the morning times are all ready posted so you late drivers know what you have to shoot for to win.

This is the first ever Early Event I've gone to as normally not a morning person. So I got to see some people I normally don't see like Tony and his new Spyder.
Got to drive Brian Meyer's 07 GT Mustang and I was very consistent. I know there is no one going to beat Brian's 44.874 in S3. Try as I might I could only do a 47.759 in S0 with Tony proving his mettle (medal) by 45.813 which if you can count is 1.946 seconds faster than me with his great new car, great driving and factory tires. He has a Gee meter in there and got 1.26 geez somewhere on factory tires. Yikes. Or is it Geez?

It will be interesting to see what Ken and Sam Marian are able to pull out this afternoon with their GT3. Hopefully they have new rear tires and no grip:)

I shared the right car to be competitive in S0 but sucked 2.885 seconds behind Brian winning in S3. His car is loads of fun and predictable to drive and my last 3 runs were within .1 second of each other and I never hit anything. It would take me some time to learn to drive with the amazing rear wheel torque steering Brian uses (maybe never).

Joe Vance was on rails again and fun to watch. He freely shares all his secrets - you have only to ask him.

Thanks to everyone for another great day autocrossing with FAST. The late group is about to take it's first runs and I've been home for 1/2 hour:)

Full results are now posted and it's only 5:15. Awesome as usual. :notworthy:

Good times today. very easy to overdrive the course or miss a few sections. Got it someone together on my 4th run, but still only good for 4th in class :bangwall:

Here is my video of my last run, not sure what happened here, with the Doug calling me to run right after I finished my third run, that was a quick without even getting a breather from run 3. Did someone get Integras confused with Aarons GSR being the same color? lol

Glad I got a ride in Aaron's GSR, feels like I need to possibly go ahead and get stiffer springs, felt a lot like my car, only a lot stiffer and more planted (that roll bar probably helps). Maybe its time to go past the "OEM"+ setup
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_0vfdJ ... e=youtu.be

Here is what happens when you look too far ahead and miss the other cones before the turn around :rolling: I think a few others might have done the same on their runs?

I actually thought it was your 5th run and you were getting a "freebie" from the omni-generous Ron One.

That run looked decent to me. You should think less, rest less and shoot from the hip more often. AND don't run in M with a frickin' knife anymore. (Unless it's M2 in my S2 RX8. Then you are golden.)

I'd like to thank bridgestone for creating the re71r, and Loren for the secret to the turn around. Made it my best autocross yet! Had a really great day today, great hanging with you guys as always.

For some reason I had a feeling I wouldn't do that great in this event. Ran like 48's and 47's until somehow on my last run ran a 45.7 something something. This course had me doing a lot more throttle controlling than any other so far. Good learning experience.

Also M1 is stacked, game is hard. Also Mark you gotta turn off those hacks.

Here's my 45.7 run.

After feeling a car handle that well there is no way I can take those off lol. I think you should install the tire hack, it's cheaper than a new set of supersports!

Great day! Nice to see everyone again. Also nice to see Ken Marion laying down right out of the gate to silence the morning crowd. AND leave it to Les to show me just what my car IS capable of doing. If you want to see what I can do...

It could not have been a more perfect day. The weather was a gift, the course a blast, the FAST faithful outstanding and the event ran without a glitch. I may post video in tomorrow - right now I have to convince my brain to get sleepy by 1030PM to be up, critters taken care off and on the road by 530 am Daytona bound

Cars my DD so I don't think those tires would last more than 6 months lol.

PICTURE I didn't have time to edit them so this is just an unedited dump. Thanks to Mike we also have pictures of the afternoon run group 1.

I had a blast and loved the course, I wish I could get another event on the Rivals but the front left is 100% done after the trip home. Big thanks to Jamie for letting me use them up and Phillip for letting me hit cones in the S2k.

I was happy with my best run but I really wanted to join the 44s club. The car had mid 44s in it but I was goofing up in a few places. The turnaround was great thanks to the Rivals, it felt like I could trail brake the car as deep as I wanted and the rear just stuck!

Thanks very much to the 20-odd noobs who were out en-masse today and who just infected this entire event with enthusiasm! Y''all rock!
And Soroya who grabbed lunch for the all-dayers, which was just incredibly good!
And to all the FASToids who make it all happen...what a great group. Truth.

I had my second event in the enigma that is the Fastiva. What a stupid-fun ride that thing is. Loren obliterated me today by over 2 seconds, and I don't care - that car... Thanks to all who've posted vids, I learned a lot about what I didn't do correctly: certainly the turn-around, and odds-and-ends of crap-driving other places. And plain-ol' just not trusting how much grip that POS has.

And whoever ordered the weather...are you kidding me?! :thumbwink:

Awesome event, and fantastic weather! Thanks to the Mayor for driving an unfamiliar car and letting me slide in there for a sticker! Was really fun driving my new car, but it will take a while to get to know it. Here's a video, as usual appreciate any coaching/comments.

Steve, I was gonna give you some coaching, but wanted to wait until you quit hitting cones! Then I got comfortable in the trailer after your 2nd run and sort of forgot to pay attention.

What I would have told you was what I told a lot of people: How to drive the turn-around with the "sucker apex".

I'd have also told you that I drove about 85% of the course with my right foot planted... and probably could have gone for another 10%. Definitely have to trust the grip in the silly car. And if you stayed ahead of the course, you could get away with a lot more than you thought possible.

You'd probably benefit from running in the Morning with me so that we can swap rides a little. You'd have surely been faster today if you'd have ridden along with me for just one run. You may or may not have matched me (or even beaten me), but you'd have surely been a lot closer. But, both of us were still under-driving the available grip. Dammit.

Philip's video has warped my brain, though. How does he DO that? The first "kink" after the return slalom... I knew I could carry more speed through there, but I braked every time. He carried the speed. (that's probably half of the 10% I was looking for) The FASTiva would surely have been in the 45's if I had dialed in some more balls!

No worries - I had passengers for all but my first run...your sh***y car is a magnet.
The turnaround wasn't the sucker apex for me - I carried too much speed, and was understeering wide by the time I got around. Several of the vids I watched I could see I was getting way to close to the "exit wall" and adding much unnecessary distance and not keeping any speed by sliding. At least 2 runs, anyway.
And yeah, trusting grip. Dammit is right.
Next time I'll save a run for you to ride with.

And Philip is supernatural.

A great day of autocross with perfect weather.
I couldn’t buy a good run yesterday, two DNFs and two mediocre runs were all I could muster. Shame because it was a nice course. I think I definitely over-drove some parts, tried to carry too much speed through the tight parts and generally DNF’d it up. For some reason the back of the car was loose as hell today too. Not sure if it was me just overdriving, cold tires, recently flipped tires or what. Still I had a blast as always. I am happily surprised to see I ended up with a sticker in S4 – not sure how that happened but I’ll take it!
I enjoyed watching everyone in action, a lot of new faces and it looked like they all had a good time. I took some pictures of the morning run groups – a few of the last runners in run group 1 and a good portion of run group 2.
Posted: Here
Enjoy!
Talking of pictures – thanks Philip for the excellent shot of me in 3-wheeled opposite lock stance  Time to update my avatar I think! – It almost looks like I know what I’m doing – In reality, you just caught me in the middle of a “moment” – sums up the oversteery feel I fought with all day.

Oh, and we found out where the missing pointer cone went in the morning run group - or is that a glowing red exhaust under Tony's new ride? :D

How do I get the picture to show up in the post instead of being a link? I've made it work before, but can't remember how at the moment.

Yesterday was as good as it gets; great course, great weather and a great group of people. I embarrassed myself once again by not knowing how to drive my stupidcharged Miata and managed to beat my best M2 time in Fun Run while driving the Red Herring, a beater '96 stock Miata on blown shocks. What a blast!

I'm going to like driving that car in S5 next season. I never know what my NB is thinking. With the Red Herring, you don't have to guess, the body roll tells you everything you need to know. What a great learning tool. I'm planning to loosen up the spring pre-load on the NB and raise the ride height a little so it won't be so inscrutable. Maybe that and some wider tires might make it easier to drive.
Dave
