Nov 6th Pre-Election Autocross results.

Postby twistedwankel » Sun Nov 06, 2016 5:56 pm

Congrats to the infamous Ron the Ricer and Loren the launcher for posting the results so crazy fast once again.

There were some out of the park results today. M1 Chris and Mario .011 apart. Joe Brannon first in M2 and 6th OA. Michael Lawson in S2 7th OA ahead of David Lineberry by .001 in S1. That's just nuts closeness all the way down to 11th place. The first FN doesn't show up until 26th place. Joe Vance had a very bad day. Something is wrong somewhere.

It was a smooth fast course but people still hit a lot of cones for some reason?? I improved every run today and never hit a cone. I also finished 5th in S1 on great new tires. Congrats to all who thumped me in S1. Hopefully I've learned these tires now and will get faster. No complaints since David L who beat me by 3-4 seconds at TBD on his factory stones only beat me by 1.4 seconds with both of us running new RE71's apples to apples. David was flying and beat Danny Shield's morning time by .3 seconds and he's also still learning his new tires and scrubbed them in just today....just like me:) Great competition in all the classes. This is the first time in over a year that I was able to beat S4 class so I'm very happy with my results today!! I finished 20th OA and still was 5th in class....yikes. Darn youngun's.

Thanks to all for a lovely fall day with a nice breeze and some clouds to save my eyesight.

Made it home just fine with my makeshift alternator mount. Thanks again Jamie for picking that up for me and everyone else that helped me get that back together. :notworthy:

So, funny story. Jason said he would follow me back to Tampa. Just after we pulled out onto 41 from the access road, I heard a clunk, and looked in my rear view to see Jason swerve around something. Thinking with my luck today that something else had fallen off my car, we doubled back and walked down by the railroad tracks to find this lying in the street:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hvm3z2ke94rc7 ... 5.jpg?dl=0

The missing piece of my alternator tensioner! Must have been caught on something under the car. As you can see the mounting bolt sheared off. At least I have most of the assembly and now just need a new bolt.

Also, thanks a bunch to Justin Hall for letting me co drive with him today. If only we could have stayed off the cones....

Which proves Ford had controlling interest in Mazda for quite a few years. I've got one of those too. Damn. Good that Jason still has those quick reflexes.

Lol still waiting for my luck to turn around, but that was the most fun 3rd place run yet.

As Doug mentioned, the Results are on the website.

Great event! Thanks for being a part of it! 8-)

The day was a total win for me. The course ended up being awesome. Almost everyone showed up. Everyone had fun. Didn't break the truck. Didn't break the FASTiva. And somehow managed to win M3... not something I ever expected to do.

Kinda bummed that nobody noticed that I replaced the hood pin retainer strings with proper hood pin cables. A most excellent $2 investment.

Oh, and we forgot to reset the toe on the Festiva back to zero for the drive home. Steve, was your drive home lively?

I don't think the course liked me much but it sure was fun drive! S4 was incredibly close, I was a bit off Jason but I thought I had found enough for first only to have him take it all back. I forgot my camera batteries so no pictures but I did get a chance to ride in a lot of cars and had a blast.

Actually, no. I was going to ask you about that, and then I figured - after you drove and switched off your M3-Cheater tune, you probably reset the toe to what 3/8 IN? :whip:
Seriously, it was stable.

My driving today, however, was not stable. Too many cones. Too much "ok, I'm not going to brake here..." followed by, "crap, what in the world is my right foot doing on the center pedal?" Congrats to Ben for squarely and fairly beating me, and to Loren for the same, only to a greater point. Good Times, though! The day went very well, I enjoyed the couple of ride-alongs I got, and just hanging out all day.

Thanks to every one who helped that happen!

Oh, and Drew - that is incredible! Great you found the part!

5 3 M1 999 Mark Hackett 2003 Honda S2000 31.280 0.002 1.222

How could I have missed that 3 some? Damn. Out of 12 drivers in totally different cars look at these guys!!! I am sure I've never seen this close of a finish for the top 3.

Awesome!!

I'm disappointed that The Mayor did not beat me, especially before elections are over. Maybe he needs to hold on to that RX-8? :double:

But seriously, it was a fun event. I loved having the chance to flog my car in third gear. Michael Lawson proved to me that I have LOTS to learn! Also, for the first time ever, I didn't lose to the FASTiva. That's a win.

One small comment: the use of the radio during the second run group of the afternoon session was kind of hectic. If possible, let's try to train up the beginners a bit more.

Gerry see above. He's not shitting!! S4 are the "chosen ones". These people run bone stock in more than one group. They are really fast consistently. They will eat S0, S1, S2 once again. They have beaten me in all 3 classes that I ran.

I'm used to the torque less RX8 w/big rims/rubber = not at all used to a grippy torquey balanced V8 on stock rims with front tires the same size as the RX8  I've never tried crack but it's probably like RE71R's w/torque? Scary at first. Then think Hoosiers. Unless you get faster in your toy I will prevail over you in two classes  How do you spell relief? r..e..l...I...e...f. Note that Dan E (who's ruining Ron's car by driving it sideways) only beat me by .077sec. Ron's car just loves to be driven sideways; although, not really my best show today having coned away a bit better... didn't matter as Joe opened a can of whoop-ass on M2.

Did I mention it's been quite awhile since I've finished ahead of the FASTIVA? .594 sec is off the charts. 11 places ahead. Must have been a Vette course after all  I could get used to this if I can beat anyone in S1? :bangwall:

Compliments to the chef for creating an awesome course. The weather was perfect and the racing tight. Glad Drew made it home, even if he tried to throw his bolt/bracket at my car. Can't believe we found it.

2000 Chevrolet Corvette: 0-60 in... probably under 5 seconds, but let's call it 6 seconds.
1990 Ford Festiva: 0-60 in... let's be generous and say it's as fast as a "healthy" 1.6 Miata... 9 seconds.

So, worst case, the sprint off of the starting line put you 3 seconds ahead. You seem to have misplaced 2.4 seconds somewhere, Doug. (and that's without considering the sprint out of the turn-around, or the sprint out of the Chicago box)

One day soon I hope I'll get myself in the mix of you top 5 veterans in M2 dammit. Keep coming up with 6th since I got bumped up this season Lol. Still working on tightening the loose nut behind the wheel.

Loved the course today, was fast and fun.
