My keeping quiet about that was strategic. I had no idea what you and Joe would run, and I've seen you target specific times and then decimate them. I guess I'll get to see what it's like having a target on my back next event. Looks like M3 will be much more interesting this season.Loren wrote:BUT... I completely overlooked Tyler Williams. Fantastic event as always. The latest tweak I made to my car is letting me drive how I want to, so now I can actively work on running faster instead of worrying about completely blowing a run because of a small mistake.

Did you get your fast run on video? Philip and I are waiting!Jamie wrote:S4 is going to be a furball this year....
Looking at Philip's run I THINK I was giving up time on the exit to the turnaround and at the finish crossover.
I could have used 3rd gear maybe but I was only on the limiter for about 3 seconds and then the course went back to 2nd gear territory again so I dunno.
My excuse this time is that I forgot my tire pressure gauge and had no idea what pressures I was running...

I don't know about "decimating", but within reason, I will often say "if he can do that, I can do this". I sometimes let myself get complacent if I don't have a target. What I need to do is what the really fast guys do and just ALWAYS try to shave off another second instead of thinking "well, that's all the car has".Cloud498 wrote:My keeping quiet about that was strategic. Crap! Me, too! (I don't think we've checked tire pressure in at least 3 events)jaball77 wrote:My excuse this time is that I forgot my tire pressure gauge and had no idea what pressures I was running...

An appropriately named thread Jason.
Whew, hoping I can pull that off again, and next time not coning my fastest run would be nice. Needless to say I am pleased with the "Awesomeness" that was Saturday Dec 3rd 2016. I've been running with FAST now for a few years and I've run a lot of events at Brooksville but this was my favorite course there yet. It had almost everything that I look for:
1. Longish stretches of "foot to the floor" most notably
2. Lots of "pucker factor" deceptively fast/flowing sections if approached correctly
3. ZERO painfully slow and unnecessarily busy "thread the needle" elements
4. A long and fast slalom without "tricks" (offset cones, uneven spacing)
5. And a beautiful little yet fast turn around sweeper where "tight is right" absolutely applied
6. Fantastic Florida fall weather.
The only thing that was missing was that 5th run to get the clean 38.XXX. Oh well, thankfully my second fastest run was fast enough.
I said it to Loren Saturday, but kudos on an excellent course and thanks to all the organizers for putting these on so I can play. Also thanks to Matt Sullivan again for the use of his turbo Miata, though we still have some tuning to do to the car potentially, it seems to be working pretty damn well as it sits. I've had quite a few FAST FTDs, but this was my first FTD at a fully subscribed event in a "normal" car on street tires (not even the best street tires I might add) requiring zero qualifications. I even beat 'Freakin' Drew" in effectively the same car. Yes! Hopefully this wasn't a fluke and I can pull it off a couple more times and actually pull into the lead in M2 for the season.

I did...still parsing video, but I'll get it posted soon.jaball77 wrote:Did you get your fast run on video? Philip and I are waiting!
Neither Philip or I used 3d, and I don't think it would have been worth it (unlike the last time!). I hit the limiter going through the first set of walls, but had to brake for the offset, then again just before braking for the turnaround. Never hit it on the way back.I could have used 3rd gear maybe but I was only on the limiter for about 3 seconds and then the course went back to 2nd gear territory again so I dunno.

We all want to know, was your turn around strategy "tight is right" or did you run deep and accelerate out?Cloud498 wrote:Fantastic event as always. Here are runs 2-4...the first run was nothing special:jaball77 wrote:Did you get your fast run on video? Philip and I are waiting!

Held first until redline -- that felt about halfway across the crossover, but the video indicates sooner than that. Never went to third gear. 34 psi on RE71Rs with 111 runs on them, not flipped.

Nice. Looks like you carried more speed than me through the exit of the first crossover. I braked a lot more to keep the line tight to the right. Obviously there was enough room to make it without braking! You were cleaner at the exit of the turnaround, too. I wasn't looking for that cone on the left for some reason and went too wide.Jamie wrote:Here are runs 2-4...the first run was nothing special:jaball77 wrote:Did you get your fast run on video? I kept the turnaround fairly clean, but wasn't ever satisfied with my exit speed. Good enough, though. The spot I really never mastered was the crossover coming back. I either needed to give up a bit more on entry, or hook to the left a bit to make the entry wider, so I could come across the runway at a sharper angle, turn in earlier, and accelerate through the exit. At least that's my impression from both the driver's seat and the video. The spin came from trying to pinch my line in without giving up speed or distance on the entry.
