Indeed. One of the major points of doing Classics is to bring back the "social half-hour" lunch break. Otherwise it's just half an Open.
Leave it the same as is

We provide lunch, but we don't STOP for lunch. You eat on the fly, either during the run group that you're not working or driving (assuming 3 run groups), or on your way out to work, or whatever.

Steve is correct in that the original intent of the Classics was to get back to a "small club" atmosphere, hence the name. Having a break to enjoy lunch and chat is a part of that experience for a lot of people. But, we want to give folks what they want, so we presented other options, as well. Some people are all about getting in their seat time and being gone. (and that's what we largely built the FAST Open model around)

Hmmm. Since this is a much shorter venue could we do Early and Late sessions with lunch between? Or is there insufficient parking? 6 runs is always plenty for me. If I can't sort my car out in that many runs then it's ready for the Mechanic. Not having been to an event there yet it's hard to tell.

Hopefully you'll leave this poll up until after the 28th so I can vote with intelligence rather than just my personal love of tardiness and lunch.

POLL - Classic start time

Postby Loren » Thu Jan 19, 2017 1:55 pm

This poll isn't about any particular venue. It's about Classic events in general. We do them wherever we can.

What we've been doing (except for New Year's Day) is starting about an hour later than an Open event, doing 2 run groups, stopping for lunch, doing the final run group, and then packing up and being gone by 2-2:30. Very similar to how FAST events used to run back when we only had 30-50 drivers.

The purpose of this poll is just to see if that is what the majority of people WANT to be doing, or if we should consider changing the typical Classic schedule.

Given the two parts to the poll, the time to me isn't as impotant. I really do enjoy the lunch break in between where we can chat, catch up and catch our breath. I like the 8 run'ish format with maybe a little added twist at the end when time permits. I think we used reverse last time? I also get up at 4:30am every day, but starting as the sun rises wouldn't be a popular vote i suspect, right Les? So my vote is still keep it as is.

Doug, I've been to a couple events in the past couple months but you were no where to be found, wondering if you're ducking out on me. ;)

You're probably running in the Early sessions. I always run late. I also had a couple travel/wife interferences on race days in Dec and Jan. Won't be running Vette for a couple more events now? Too many problem free cars I guess? There will be a Classic at Airport before long I'll hook up with three people then for a couple showdown runs?

I didn't find the NYD event start time was good at all.. day seamed to drag because of the late start. Done by 2 is worth way more then show up at 10. But if I was on setup crew I can understand not getting to venues at buttcrackodawn

What I do like is the fun stuff after the event.. like the gran Turismo thing we did that one time.

Yeah, I'm sure we'd have lost some attendees on New Year's Day if we'd tried to start early. It worked out well, some folks really liked it. Hence this poll.

Noted. :) I like doing fun little things like that from time to time.

I didnt mind the late start for new years, but I think starting at nine might be better than starting at 8 for a classic event

POLL - Classic start time

Postby Loren » Sun Feb 12, 2017 5:48 pm

Poll results:

42% said leave it alone.

Another 30% said do the same thing but start an hour or 2 hours later.

That accounts for 72%... safe to say that we should keep our "Classic" lunch break and 3-group format. And either start at the same time, or maybe 30 minutes to an hour later. Steve and I will discuss privately and decide if we want to make a change or not.

Thanks for your feedback!
