97 Trans Am on junk tires, I need advice for tire choice. 315's on rear 275's on front 17" rims. I basically use this for autox only with a drive to events. Would like to do an occasional track day in the future.
I have absolutely no rear traction at the moment. super charged 383 and 6 speed.

Some good discussion about that here:

You'll just have to research what's available in the sizes that you need.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Steven,

17s make it tough to find the tire sizes you are looking for in today's latest high performance street/track compounds. I finally broke down and got a set of 18s for my '92 vette for this very reason. Luckily 18s are fairly cheap to come by http://www.oewheelsllc.com/ is in Sarasota and has lots of 18x10.5 choices that would work for your car. I think I mentioned this Saturday to you. You can fit a 315mm tire on a 10.5" wide wheel reasonably. you might be able to run 315s on all four corners on that car, but I'm not sure, that is what I'm doing. If you get some 18s then you can get some Rival S in the widths you desire and that is a great tire to do what you want but hold on to your hat, they aren't cheap. :o With 17s you are basically limited to about a 275mm tire in any of the good street tire choices, or slicks which you can't drive on to/from the track.

Les would certainly be the guy to listen to concerning this matter. He makes a banana stick while peeling it.

LOL! Rotated tires still some tread left for a few more events. Search is on! Thanks Les.
