Oct 8 FAST @ Dunnellon

Postby Loren » Thu Aug 17, 2017 12:37 am

We're back at Dunnellon to start our new season!

EDIT: This was the Sep 9 event, rescheduled to Oct 8.

The Big D is not super-close, but only about an hour North of Brooksville. Should be great for people who live up that way, and a quick run up I-75 (or US-41) for Tampa area folks. It's another airstrip facility. Mostly asphalt with a few hundred feet of WW2-era concrete.

This event will be open to all drivers, just like a FAST Open event, but it won't be a part of our Championship series. It will be run more like a Classic event, casual and fun, but without the experience requirement of a Classic. It's "just an Autocross", come on out and have some fun!

If you know any autocrossers (or people who might become autocrossers) who live in the Ocala/Gainesville area, be sure they know about this event!

Given the location, we will be starting this event significantly later than usual. Driver check-in is around 9:30. Plenty of time to make the trip from Tampa and even stop for coffee and a donut on the way. Mmmmm... donuts.

This site lends itself to fairly short course designs, which means lots of runs! How many will depend on the number of entries and the weather and all that. But, expect somewhere around 5-6, and possibly more.

We'll be providing lunch for all registered drivers and guests at this event, too!

Registration is open until October 5. Hope you can make it!

All drivers AND guests must pre-register, this is a closed site.

Double slalom? RIP all of the cones.

I'll be breaking in my new (heavily used) 99 Miata though!

The outgoing slalom should be very easy and fast. The return side... Depends on exactly how we set it up. 50 ft slaloms often get a little easy offset.

Hurricane and Sept 9th event

Postby CaptainSquirts » Tue Sep 05, 2017 10:58 am

So since this hurricane seems to be a hot topic right now, and there being a Fast event this Saturday. Does this hurricane affect the Sept 9th autocross event?

Hurricane and Sept 9th event

At this point, it doesn't look like it should be affecting our event. It will be coming around the tip of FL on Saturday.

Oh, I bet he would!

But, alas...

WEATHER ALERT

If you didn't hear, there's a hurricane headed toward us! We were all set to autocross Saturday. And, honestly, the weather will NOT be such that we couldn't do so on Saturday. The problem is that most of South Florida is in evacuation mode, and the rest of Florida is in "freak out" mode. As a result, we expect the traffic heading North from the Tampa area on Saturday to be horrendous. And getting fuel before or after the event would be a major hassle. So, reluctantly, we've had to accept that it is best to not hold an autocross this weekend.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED IN PLACE OF THE OCTOBER 8 FAST CLASSIC!

If you were already registered for 9/9, you are still registered for 10/8. We just changed the date in the system. Now, 10/8 is a Sunday, and for a plethora of reasons, maybe you can't attend the event on 10/8. NO PROBLEM. If you can't make the new date, just log into Motorsports Reg, go to your Dashboard, and cancel your entry. We have not yet billed for this event, and will not do so until after the close of registration for 10/8 (which will be 10/2). So, if you need to cancel, you have plenty of time to do it. Just do it before 10/2. No harm, no foul.

We're really sorry we had to drop the September 9th date. We wanted to autocross this weekend as much as 39 of the rest of you did! It's just not in the cards this time. Be safe, friends.

On the plus side, we've got another 3 weeks of time to push this event to all the folks we know. Maybe we can reach our entry limit of 75? That would make for a GREAT event! So, pick up your phone and call, text, email, Tweet, Insta, Bookface, or whatever you do... let's get more people coming to this alternate date!

Depends on how many people register, and on what the afternoon weather is. If we have like 40 drivers and are in no rush to beat the rain or anything, we'll do at 8-10. (3 one-hour groups of 13 drivers... 25-second start interval, absolute best case would be 11) If we have more drivers and/or some reason to try to finish earlier, we may end up closer to 6 or maybe even 5. (say, 3 one-hour groups of 24 drivers... 30-second start interval... worst case = 5) Or, if we had a full house of 75 drivers... maybe we'd do 4 run groups. (4 one-hour groups of 18 drivers, 25 to 30-second start interval... 6 or maybe 7 runs)

So, it just depends. Expect 5. Be happy if we end up doing more! Registration is currently at around 40 drivers. Should be good for lots of runs.
