I'm continuing my learning curve with video and data capture.

Here's my first attempt at adding a data overlay on the GoPro video:

This was my first run of the event - By the way - I jinxed myself with the comment about getting a clean run in the bank. I coned all four runs that day :bangwall:

I really like the overlay with all of the gauges and stuff. I want to get a chance to play around with some of the software that you and Loren have posted about. I just hope that none of it needs an OBD2 plug, because I don't have one!

This a really fun event, but it was freezing cold. Freezing cold. I am replacing my clutch master/hose/slave and after getting the car on jackstands, I am found that my rear tires are nearly bald! I'm going to swap them with the front ones that have some tread and hope that helps.

Here is one of four runs and one of the two I spun.

Unfortunately, you need OBDII to get... well, pretty much anything you can't get from GPS. GPS can give you speed and position, that's about it. (and your phone GPS isn't fast enough to give really useful info, you'd need an external GPS) Easiest way to get RPM would probably be to point a camera at your dashboard.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Yes, as Loren said, an OBDII is required, In my case an OBDII plug that transmits the data by Bluetooth to the phone with an app called Track Addict. The phone acts as the controller and central hub that collects the video and GPS from the cellphone as well as the OBDII data in a format that can later be edited on your computer with Track Addict's sister program Race Render. Track Addict can also sync with an external Go Pro camera by wifi, but it seems to really kill the battery life. I'm still experimenting and will try hooking up a power cable to the camera for the next event.

However, without the OBDII, you can still capture speed, the "G" meter and the track map from your phone's GPS. Speed will probably be a bit laggy vs the OBDII but it's worth a try.
Again as Loren mentioned you can get much better GPS data with an external GPS unit transmitting to the app via Bluetooth or wifi, but these are between $80 to $120 from what I've seen so it's quite a commitment. Certainly worth trying your phone's GPS first and see what results you get.

On the other hand it's another rabbit hole to go down that can be a distraction from the focus required during your runs. I'm sure I will soon end up with a 'set it and forget it ' location where it's one less thing to think about :thought:
Good luck!

Better late than never...

Season Points have been updated.

You'll notice that they're posted with and without drops. The policy is "you drop your 3 lowest scores at the end of the season. So, at this point, you could ignore them. But, if you've got a competitor who's missed 2-3 events already, and you haven't... you're could be dropping a LOT more points than them. So, it's worth looking at. And... it appears to make the top scores in most classes a lot closer than they would appear if you didn't look at the drops.

Going into our 6th event of the season... the game is most definitely on!
