Faster than a stumbling tongue Loren posted the results for all you morning folks to see if your efforts were good enough. Some were, some weren't.
I got the last sticker in S1 by .008 which won't make the AM person happy. I got beaten by two Nationally competitive partners in the SAME car so I only got beaten once by 3.1 seconds. Whoa. They aren't going away they live too close now. The competition was tighter than I've seen it in a long time. HUGE classes. 12 in S1 now. 20 in M2.
The derilect planes are closing in. Starting to look like Arizona in Brooksville.
Ron Rice somehow managed to win S0? Mike Desanti was having Tremendous Torque issues with his new Police pusher bars in front making the car push:) They look great tho'.
So think about signing up earlier next events since the cool dry weather is here and all the wimps will sign up first to get the warmest pavement possible. Be warned.
Thanks everyone for making today a fun event for me and Maria.

I was shocked another brazilian aircraft was parked at the airport again
But it was HOT this morning, no air either. I am not sure if I'll make the nov 17th event, I think some non autocross friends want me to be at bradenton at the drag strip for an event.
Here was my fastest run at 40.102, still more to improve especially with the M3 competition.

Frustrating day out there! The car was swapping ends on me like it never has before. The only thing I can think of that might have caused it was rotating the tires. I ran all of last season without rotating them and the fronts were noticeably more worn than the rears. So when I swapped them today I moved the more grippy tires to the front I guess and around she went! I tamed it a little by lowering the rear pressures but it still wasn't right. I think I'll disconnect the rear sway bar for the next event. So let this be a lesson to you, rotate your tires more than once a season!
I never did get a clean run I was happy with. I either screwed up the entry to the turnaround or botched something on the return side. There were 38s in the car if I could have gotten it together...

Whew! Long day! But, I'm home, fed and showered. So, that's good.
My Mirage went home on a flatbed, however. So, pardon me if my usual sarcasm take a step further toward "snarky" this evening.
The usual round of thanks, in no particular order, though most of the more sincere ones should come first.

- Thanks to everyone for coming out and spending your Saturday with FAST, we hope you had as much fun as we did!

- Thanks to those who helped out when needed, especially at the end of the day. Much appreciated!

- Thanks to everyone who helped push my busted car around!

- Thanks to Philip for giving me a ride home.

- Thanks to Ken for letting me take some runs in his car and whoop up on his entire class.

- Thanks to all the younger folks for letting the over-40 crowd do all the heavy lifting at the end of the day.

- Thanks to the folks who spun through the finish for reminding us that 125 feet apparently isn't enough space to keep you from hitting the timing lights!

- Thanks to all the course workers at station 3, 4 and 5 for not IMMEDIATELY red-flagging the course when a driver came out of the turn-around and went down the wrong side of the course. (Seriously??? SOMEBODY had to be watching this car!)
This is by far the scariest thing I've seen at a FAST event in a long time. What Ben said about the sitation is spot on: When you're working course, you need to be thinking about how pissed you would be if you crashed into another car due to some course worker's inattention. Totally not cool.
PAY ATTENTION, PEOPLE! - Thanks to Dan for proving that the Mirage is not indestructible.

- Seriously, thanks to Dan for his willingness to help fix the car. It was a simple missed shift, we've all done it.

1st gear at 54 mph. It's either jumped the timing chain, or bent valves. There is zero compression.CaptainSquirts wrote:What happened to the mirage?

Bummer about the Mirage...
I only sorta recall running that course before, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent mix of slow'n'fast, and one had to really be on the ball to run it well.
I was only sorta on the ball, as I coned away my best time (hit the last cone on the first wallom when I turned in too soon - at least I think that was it).
Thank you very much Sara for the codrive (and the others who offered - I couldn't turn down the chance to get the points in-class). I hope any of my suggestions were helpful.
Same to the others I rode with over the day - hope I was able to get you "up to speed."
I'm ready for Fall...
Anyone want to help fix up the trailer next month?

Lots of spooky Halloween stuff happening out there today! Only got 2 runs in before the radiator decided it didn't want to hold fluid anymore. Got a 39.7, but I know there was a ton of time that I never had a chance to make up. Super fun course, really bummed I didn't get more runs on it.

You can almost feel the disappointment through the helmet when I look at the right side of the windshield covered in coolant at the end of my run
Nothing a little JB Weld couldn't fix to get me home though.

I've got a lot more respect for the 2-5 shift now. It might be slow, but it doesn't break stuff!

I'm glad I was the one following the car who started running back down the course on the wrong side. I saw it happening from pretty far away so I would have been ready to move off course if got close enough to crash.. still, we will work to move forward and avoid that happening again.
Me and the mazdaspeed were a little off. I was over driving the car on cold pressures and a faulty abs system (not just no abs, I think I could deal with that, there's a front wheel that locks up under very light brake application.. we'll figure it out!) And the tire pressures were too low for me as well until Drew helped me salvage the day with a decent 5th run.
Had lots of fun though, thanks everyone

Lots of time to be lost on this course.
1st run was typical cold tire slipperyness. Nailed it on the second run with a 36.8, but tagged a cone. No problem, I can clean that up EZ PZ. Right?
Proceeded to try to swap ends on each of my consecutive runs.
Instead of just going out and doing my thing and putting down a solid run, I think I was trying to push it just a little more to catch Preston's 36.1.

I saw Matt lock up his brakes up near station 3 on one of his runs, and thought back to his facebook post. I wonder what the issue is, hope its not something like a module going badmarkzeronine wrote:I'm glad I was the one following the car who started running back down the course on the wrong side. Agree about easily losing time on the course if you didn't do it right. Took my last run, overdrove the hell out of it and lost 7 tenths

Man, it's funny when some of you guys(you stupid fast people, you know who you are!)get crazy fast times I then try too hard to catch up and it just screws those runs up. Now the best of the best run into the same problems as us regulars people doAScoda wrote: Sun Oct 21, 2018 10:36 am Instead of just going out and doing my thing and putting down a solid run, I think I was trying to push it just a little more to catch Preston's 36.1.![]()
I wasnt at the event but Preston's time compared to the regular FTD'ers is pretty crazy. Hopefully he posts a video!

Lauren, sorry to hear about the money shift. The last WRL race I attended my teammate $$ shifted at 110mph and a few laps later had a bbq out on track. (Nobody was hurt, and the fire got put out relatively quick) Point of the story, at least you didn't lose a rod and have oil let loose on the exhaust manifold.
Course was fun, and really, really fast in the MSM. I was well into 4th gear through the first section before the turnaround, 70mph+. The second half of the course was visually deceptive and was slower than it looked, easy to overdrive.
The red convert mustang had to of thought he was playing mario kart, no, the cones aren't coins.
No video of this event, it's hit or miss whether I remember to charge the gopro the night before, yesterday was a miss.
Made some changes to the car since last event. Exhaust, stiffer front springs, different ride height, and a new sparco driver seat to spare my knees from bracing myself. New springs= car pushed in slow speed stuff and it was still loose, but...it did help weight transfer so it wasn't quite as loose as it used to be under trail braking. Going to keep them in for now until I get a bigger sample size. I don't think I saw sound posted, that was my only concern with a new exhaust setup.
Overall, another fun event.

Nah, your speedo must have been set to kph. None of Lauren's courses would put you over 65 mph. The safety peoples dont like much more then that
