Gating the Shifter

Postby Loren » Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:23 pm

Got some info from the Mirage community today. Turns out the Mirage shifter is nearly identical in design (possibly just plain identical) to the Lancer shifter, and there's a good pictoral installation instruction set for a short shift kit:

It at least shows that it's quite different from a Honda shifter, so the readily available Honda shift springs won't work.

The shift spring arrangement IS very simple... if one could find a stiffer spring of that type.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

You guys replaced the entire engine assy in an hour +1/2 and the shifter takes an hour to modify. Something is very wrong here.

I think you should just put a Bocce ball as a shift knob and tap it towards the top so lower weight mass and cool looking short shifter without disassembly. Whoever is closest to third gear each run gets one point.

Removing and replacing parts is easy. Designing, engineering, modifying and creating parts takes a little more time.

I thought the honda shifter springs on the cable transmissions are done from the transmission side of the shifter.

About the shift linkage assembly, is there anything on the transmission side where the cables attach to that you can modify to stiffen it? Like plastic vs metal cable brackets, etc.
