June 29 - Dunnellon Open

Postby Loren » Sat Jun 29, 2019 11:41 pm

Good times at the Big D today! We dodged the rain except for the slightest drizzle, and the course absolutely rocked!

And for all of the griping that we occasionally do about the quality of course work... well, the Late Session was understaffed, so we mostly ran one car at a time, and they did fine. (and I wasn't paying that much attention) But, the Early Session... WOW, both groups were on point! There were MANY instances of situations where course workers could have let us down, and they just plain didn't! We were all impressed!

Oh, did I mention that we did 6 runs? Oh, yes we did!

Thanks for coming out and having fun with us!

Here are the Results.

The "Push Harder, Suck Less" philosophy explained:
Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

Here are the two spins, the first one, I tried to do the whole slalom in 3rd gear, NOPE!

Cool videos.

Even cooler was that it didn't rain, AND the clouds and breeze kept the afternoon from being stupid-hot. Nice.

It was a fun time, as usual. Much appreciate everyone's help today, also as usual. Y'all know it can't happen without you.

Bill - you continue to tweak the 'wagon and make it better. Congrats on beating me! :salute: I couldn't keep my faster runs clean (coned away 7th overall, nonfunrun...).

Dunnellon, fun runs only count when I win edition! Tough competition in M3 yesterday. Andrew had a respectable time of 30.2 and still ended up last out of 7 cars :dunno: Here’s what would’ve been a legit FTD if I could’ve figured it out 2 runs before, made sure to get my money’s worth out of that limiter. 8-)

loved the new little cones, so much easier to pick up, worked well for grid and walls :wise:

of course, the low weight reflects less wacko rubber on the surface from the macho tribe.

Was the first time you saw the smoke cloud at an autox? I've noticed it worse on some higher g runway courses vs the parking lot style courses for the mk7 R on tw200 or r comp tires

I wonder if there is an updated PCV valve that fixes it. The APR catchcan that runs inline with the stock PCV on the 2016 Golf mk7 at the Corvette autocrosses would fill up with straight oil so I wonder if a PCV blockoff catch would work to stop the issue.

A catch can is a must with direct injected VWs!

Best is VWR, you can find it at ECS Tuning , however, Burger Tuning makes one that should be good enough. Simpler and less $$$
