Nov 3 Classic Dunnellon

Postby Native » Mon Nov 04, 2019 12:28 pm

The weather was way, way better than it's been.
We had a solid, 3-group Classic event.
Folks did 6 runs.
We shared a nice lunch.
Pictures were taken.
Fun was had.

I did not get beaten by my codriver this time.

Discuss.

Most of all, thanks. Thanks to Steve, Loren, the Early Crew, everyone who helped make this happen.

Dunnellon is a drive, even for North Tampa folks, so thank you for putting this on.

I had a blast in spite of getting whupped.

Big takeaways:

a. My car gets faster with more spring.
b. No I cannot make it through that left sweeper onto the runway, flat-out.

Congrats on the ninja FTD Aaron! Totally caught me off guard :snicker: . I had to take home the almost full package of oero's to eat my sorrows away.

Course was as great and fast! The weather was nice but the sun was still brutal.

My quickest run 37.827. I don't think I could've knocked off a couple tenths to beat Aarons time. Didn't really see anything in my video that I could improve enough to reach his time.

Great event! I got less sleep than usual the night before this event, in spite of the extra hour provided by the time change. Was just up late researching Miata parts. So, when I got home, took a shower... I fell asleep watching some 8-minute long YouTube video! Dead to the world for 2 hours. Decided to just roll with it and go to bed after that!

Thanks to Dan (the original Dan, of no mustard, accept no substitutes) for giving me a ride to and from the event with expediency and good conversation. And thanks to Ken for letting me abuse his Miata, which proved to be more capable of winning S4 than I was! The take-away is that I need a better pit crew to spot my cones and let me know what I'm hitting. In the end, it turns out that the cone I hit on 3 different runs was nowhere near where I THOUGHT I was hitting cones. Never would have guessed that one. And I never felt or heard any of the 5 cones that I hit (on 5 different runs). :dunno:

The Course was AWESOME!!!! i drove like my wife tapping brakes so didnt do as well as i liked. I had a 39.9 but somehow got a cone- so settled for a 40 flat - i knew that wasn’t up to par for my car and that was confirmed when aaron took my car out on his last run and beat me by more than a second. Thanks for setting up a great course - I thought it ran really smooth. The awd cars- Daniel, The gray Focus RS and the audi TTRS did very well out there it was pretty slick.

We need to have "the talk" with Zach about how top-heavy the Mazda 2 is.
