Groj Day - Dec 7 - Miata Engine Stuff

Postby Loren » Tue Dec 03, 2019 1:26 am

Alright, I need to get motivated and replace the timing belt, water pump and associated belts, hoses and seals on my Miata. I've had the parts here for a couple weeks now. Just need to get it done! Pending Ken's schedule, we may also do his Miata at the same time and make it a two-fer.

Having friends around helps to motivate me, and it's just fun to hang out with car guys (and gals), and who knows, maybe you could learn something? (or teach something) So, I'm opening up the garage to anyone who wants to come help, watch, or heckle. If you don't require TOO much supervision, I've even got space that you could do some minor work on your own car while we're at it. What do you need to do?

Anybody who's spent any time in my garage knows that there will be food. Cathy won't be around, but I can probably get her to bake something for us. And lunch... will happen.

WHEN: Saturday, Dec 7 - 9:30am - 4:30pm (I may start this on Friday, lemme know if you want to come Friday)

WHAT: Timing Belt and Water Pump job on a 1999 Miata, plus a few other things. And maybe some other stuff... like a rear swaybar on Chris' MX-6.

WHERE: My garage in Safety Harbor, PM me if you need the address.

WHO: Well, maybe you? Anyone is welcome to come watch & learn, help, hang out, heckle, whatever. No experience required.

So far, it's:
Loren
Chris
Philip
Maybe Soraya

Please reply if you plan to attend. And if you have any work to do, that would also be good to know. 8-)

I'll be there with sway bar in hand. Apparently there is a small bracket I need to smash/cut/torch off to make the new bar fit.

Confirmed for tomorrow: Chris, Philip, and chocolate chip cookies.

I filled the cooling system with a mix of water and vinegar and warmed the car up a while ago. I'm going to spray the engine with some Simple Green in a little bit, and then hose that off and flush out the cooling system and give the car a quick wash.

That should give us a fairly clean car to work on tomorrow.

I'm also going to take inventory and try to make sure I have everything needed. Will try to pick up anything like sealant or Loctite that I may be missing while I'm out this evening. But, I'm pretty sure I bought all that stuff.
