I've seen many of us here drive like he was, I've drifted during autocross to destroy rear tires and have some fun, which last I checked is one of the words that make up FAST. Sure, he was a little more obvious than I've seen lately, and I have no issues with the red flag except that it should have happened (and was attempted but he was past the local station too quickly) before he got near the soccer field side of the course. I certainly do not think it warranted removal from all future FAST events. Instead of trying to get the guy to understand the organizers point and to learn and improve we instead ban him. I do not agree with that at all.

Hell I know that Derek, Jeremy, myself, Kenny, probably Charles off the top of my head could have been banned at one time or another for doing similar things.

Also, isn't that a call Steve should have made? Not you? (the ban from future events thing, not the red flag, no more runs that day). Perhaps Steve did make that call, but the second thing you said to me after the post-slalom slide was that it would be his last event with us.

What he did was no worse than what a lot of us have done. I can understand the red flag but I'm wondering that if it were Derek, Jeremy, myself, etc have done it no one would have said a word.

As for the photos and such. A car sliding at an autocross. I'm not really sure that'll be too damaging really. Actually, I have photos of Charles sliding excessively in the same exact spot of pavement in April...

I did have fun some fun yesterday and plan on doing alot of events this year. As far as the radios go. I own several and would be more then happy to bring a few out with me. I'm sure some other people have some also. This should fix the problem without the club having to spend more money

Donations are always gladly accepted, but, as I understand it, not all radios are compatible. We really need a full set that all work well together - a full set being at least 6, and better 8 (4 work stations, timing, start, grid, safety) and even better that plus a spare or two. We've tried mix-and-match in the past, and it hasn't worked as either one or two will receive but not transmit, or vice-versa, or something.

If you've got that many you want to give up, that'd be great, and very generous. If not, and you want to donate them anyway, ok - and thanks - we may be able to use them. But in that case we'll probably purchase what we need anyway (and we'll be ok). :)

Scott, Brian(s), Jeremy, Dan, Dave, etc. - it's all good discussion, and I'm learning stuff, as is everyone reading. If there's more to say, or others who have something to add, I'd like to hear (read) it.

I've been looking at good quailty 2 way radios this morning on the net. Motorola, Kenwood, Midland, etc etc, all seem to be about $100 each, they come with heavy duty rechargeable batteries, and most say they're shock proof, (the real good ones are over $200). Figuring the one's we have now were about $40 each and lasted a year or so, and good ones should last at least 4 plus years, I think it would be worth the investment.

Steve and Dave were thinking that we shouldn't leave the new radios in the trailer and I agree. It keeps them out of the heat and keeps them safer. A couple of the old radios that were bad had the batteries leak and I'm sure that was their demise.

on the BAN, when I first ran an autocross, I was very pumped, and I was pushing way hard, totally lost it and creamed 3 or 4 cones at one shot. I was so embarassed I was gonna stop and help put them back up. I was afraid I was gonna be kicked off the site for reckless behavior.

Driving counter course on your last run simply shows you are a jackass that doesn;t give a shit about the group you are with. I am certain there are others out there with the same software that mask it better.

maybe give him an opportunity to work off his shame shaggin cones or whatnot

I paid $80 for a set of 2 and they go 25 miles. Most radios all work together. You just need to be on the same frequency. We use them all the time on group drives. You dont need a high quality radio to transmit across a parking lot. What i meant is not donating radios is people bringing them if they own them to use for the day. Like we were short at lakeland. It's really sad if people are stealing radios and stuff like that when we are out to have fun togther. I will bring radois out next time. if you need them you are welcome to use them. Costco sells them sheap and so does bestbuy. Once again cheap radios work great. We are all very close to each other so you dont need a strong radio

Great event.

Slippery and a bit too tight for Corvettes, but that's ok...the variety makes it interesting.

6 runs was a good number-getting home on a Saturday by 1630 is appreciated by the spousal unit. :wink:

Concerning the aggressive driver being discussed, I was not witness to the entire event, but perception is everything when speaking of outsiders-I observed two police cars watching our moves as well as a field full of soccer players (and concerned parents-who seemed to be watching us more than the game!)...I'm not exempt from a spin on occasion nor from a bit of slide angle to make a run fast, but...

I don't ever recall seeing any of you going the wrong way up a course or bypassing gates. There's a large difference between being loose on the course and borrowing the space the course is set up on for a different game.

Brian's thinking ahead: our relationship with the City of Lakeland and the Hernando County airport are fragile, not because we've done anything wrong, but because the larger world that equates "sports" with something involving a ball also equates any activity driving cars quickly with NASCAR and huge flaming crashes. The logic of all our safety precautions and autocrossing's outstanding multi-decade safety record will wilt against few soccer parents at Lakeland or RV residents at Brooksville "concerned" about our events. I've seen sites lost for much less...it's much easier and less controversial for people to tell us "no".

On a happier note: registration for the 4 October event is open!

The combination of 19 and 61 recorded 12 runs. If you recall, I came out after your fourth run and asked you both how many runs you had -- at that point, the scoring system showed Bob with 5 runs and you with 3. Since you both told me you'd done four, I concluded to you that you'd taken a run with his number on the car. After that, you both recorded two more times, so the system showed him with seven runs, and you with five. Based on the trend in times, I'll wager that the 53.009 recorded as his fifth run is actually your fourth, and he's missing one because the computer was set to keep only the first six runs. (Bob...you missing a time?) If that's right, that's a hazard of two-driver cars...if the number on the car isn't correct, the starter may or may not recognize the person under the helmet and call it in.

Kenny -- any way of checking my theory? There's also something wacky with several of the two-driver cars. I'm sure both the Harvey and Merideth cars did more runs than indicated...or did formatting drop something off the spreadsheet?

Again, I don't think anyone is contesting the red flag, just the ban. I actually didn't see him bypassing gates, and he only went the wrong way after spinning, after which he turned back towards the course. I watched all but a small part of it so I guess that all could have happened in the 3 seconds I missed.

The most dangerous incident of the weekend was the solo vee getting lost on course and heading back towards an earlier portion of the course.. with a car on it.
