Right you are guys... But, I've always been an easy braker and now hope to never turn these vibrant red Brembo a dull color by maxing them (road course style). The finish cost too much!

We have so much to the four winds on this car...getting any of the parts back is a win and reduces my stress a touch. Statistically, something will get missed in the overwater shipping... Today I paid the $90 import tax on a shipment from the UK...been in customs for 6 weeks. The Brexit turned the UK parts path from 4 days to 60... Hopefully this week we will have the vast majority delivered.

Its kind of disturbing how much a supplier will charge for a part under one model, but then find the same part under a different model for much less.

[Cough]Audi[cough]VW.... And to make it worse, even the "Audi" parts are usually stamped "VW"....

Also talked about cooling systems and the need for a thermostat...even tested the new 176 degree stat in the kitchen...it worked!

Today we did a bit of interior work:



Next is to pull the carpet for a car wash clean with Simple Green:

Popped some pads in place (basic street Stoptechs):





We also nearly completed the rear suspension...she tried her hand at torquing the axle nut...bit difficult with her sub 100 pound frame (min torque is 144!):



Cylinder head news...shop is open and possibly complete end of next week! Nothing fancy, just a skim and assembly with all new components.

Not only dropping a torque wrench is bad, but a Snap On wrench, yikes ! Brakes and suspension look nice, I'm sure that powder coat will hold up fine. What was the minor surprise ? I couldn't make out what I was looking at in your pic, is that a T-tap connector ?

Affirm...otherwise known as a scotch lock or fire starter? I despise wiring, but this is no issue. Wonder what was it providing power to...

I have one on my 240 jumped off the ashtray light so I have switched power to the lights on my auto meter gauges, probably barely pulling a amp, hopefully yours isn’t much more than that. Though it looks disconnected, are you going to remove it ?

Brian: I'm not a fan of them, but easily removed with some tape covering the 'penetration.'

Not to high jack your thread, but it kinda cool seeing someone else cleaning up their fender liners too, mine looked pretty bad, I used almost half a bottle of Armor All on mine, just let them soak for a few weeks, they came out pretty nice, hope to have them in by next weekend.

Brian - those look new! Surprised you don't have any damage from decades of use...Florida helps. Ours had rub thru in several places from tire contact - car was lowered previously with a larger than OEM tire. We hope to go wider than taller so hope to avoid the same fate. Fortunately, they are available and not that expensive...

A turning point for us today...carpet has been removed!

Assistant learning again what leverage is - "Try turning the wrench perpendicular to the bolt" (it was an aftermarket eyelet for the 5 point harness):

And finally success! Rewarding her with more cleaning - vacuum! Very impressed at the lack of any changes/damage from the previous owners!:



Love working on this generation of Japanese cars...all the interior panels popped of with minimal fuss and not a single clip/joint was broken!

We will do a good scrub of the carpet (auto wash?) and reinstall along with the rest of the interior...possibly in a week or two - progress!

Damn Tim, you two are really making a lot of progress, looks really good and solid. I actually have replaced both fender liners a few years ago, they got pretty trashed from Autocrossing, in fact Steve left one out on the Brooksville course during one event.

Daniel: the pics make it look a bit better than real - but thanks. We know we will have our hands full getting it roadworthy with the German rules so spending a bit up front seems like a logical approach. Our clock is ticking with only 8 months left. As an example, they check braking force total, split, and the parking brake. First aid kit, warning triangles (expiration dates too!), headlight adjustment (our nearly new Highlander nearly failed for the headlights...it is has never been touched and nearly failed). After sitting for 6 years, we plan for the worst with ABS and CE lights galore...all will fail the car.

Brian: makes more sense. I've consumed more than my fair share on the Subaru - fortunately they were very inexpensive. It is a bit trying at times to compete with school currently so only get her on task for ~2 hours a weekend probably. It will become real as the engine comes together.

Another fun package arrived - individual coil on plug system.



The shop mentioned a ignition coil/spark problem caused the engine failure...(or it could have just been a bad tune). Nonetheless, seems like the cost for new OEM coils equals this reasonably priced plug and play system. Again seems like a good idea to elminate a variable. Interestingly the OEM setup only has 2 coils for 4 plugs. One coil supports two cylinders...

Success - complete cylinder arrival. Complete with GSC (beehive springs/locks/Ti retainers), Manley (std size valves), and OEM seals. We hope for 8000 rpm capability:

I almost felt honored to part ways with near 400 euro for the cleaning, valve/seat grind, and assembly along with .1 mm decking.
