Thanks to everyone for their sympathy at my stupidity today.

Very special thanks to Ron Croft for trailering my car home and Howard for offering the use of his trailer to get my car to a shop at some point in the future as well as helping to get the trailer back into storage.

Also thanks to Michael Long; I may have a lead on a bottom end that I will need and possibly other pieces I don't need but would be fun to have.

And, yes, it is OK to say "what an idiot!"

In my defense I present this: in some things I am very much a creature of habit. On Thursday before an event I check the fluids and top up if necessary. If I had to top up then I check again on Friday to make sure I don't have a dangerous leak.

This Thursday I woke up in Indiana, spent the day in Kentucky and that night in Nashville. Friday I was flying home from Nashville. My normal routine was completely disrupted and, for those things that are set routines, I don't cope well when the routine is broken.

Live and learn. Too bad it is going to be such an expensive lesson.

The main thing for me to learn is to institute compensatory measures for when routines are disrupted.

There were almost a half dozen people who quickly checked their oil levels after seeing what happened to me. I know of 3 people who discovered low oil and one who quickly moved to top up his oil! :shock:

There is a real lesson here; pay attention!

f20c is a great motor, but that's one of the inherent flaws, it burns a good bit of oil.

I guess that's the price we pay for a 9,000 rpm redline

It depends on what I can find and how much it costs. Also on whether I'm willing to move into MOD or stay in STOCK. All these things must be weighed.

For now, I'm still on a hunt for a replacement bottom end or full engine. (Haven't heard back from Michael Long yet and there is no guarentee that that deal will go through.) So if anyone hears of anything please post here or PM or email me.

I know should hang at s2ki.com and post there but there are so many posts there that it can really suck time I don't have.

You missed me running the event with no oil and doing seriously BAD things to my engine. Started making really nasty sounds. The concensus opinion is that I spun a bearing.

So now I rebuild what I have, or get a replacement bottom end, or get a replacement engine. Getting a different car is NOT an option!

If there is a silver linining in all this it is that I have a spare car available: the Miata I was half-heartedly trying to sell. I can drive it until the S is back in running order, even if that takes months. I'd been planning to put it on AutoTrader this week after coming back from my business trip, but now it is a good thing that it hasn't already sold!

AP2's can as wll, they just don't burn as much, and they won't for a little while at least in most cases.

My GS-R never burned until it hit 80k or so, now it burns at least 1-2 qts per oil change (granted I don't do 3k changed, usually 7500 or so in the GS-R)

My friends brand new 07 S2000 made the same noise as Bill's car, it turned out to be a cracked piston. The car had less than 5,000 miles on it.

When I spun the rod bearing on my car, it had a tiny little sliver of oil on the dipstick. It was full before the first run of the day. She burned a quart and a half over the course of 3 2-minute runs. You may have had enough (above "minimum") at the start, but all the first gear running of the course just drained it away.



Knocka-knocka-knocka-knocka. Enjoy the color of the oil when you drain it out of there. Just for fun, cut open the case of the filter and see what's in there.

I've found some low mileage used F22 long blocks for good prices. This would be a mod, upgrading from my 2.0L to 2.2L.

Should I stay in stock or aim for more fun?

I've also been offered a 2.4L stroker that is just finishing being built.

The stroker or AP2 engine would put me into class E from my current F. A supercharger (if I could afford that) would put me in D.

OTOH, if I was competitive it would be an issue but y'all have seen my driving; I'm just out to have fun. Maybe I should aim to maximize that fun!
