Future Event Ideas.

Thinking about Chairing an event coming up and wanted input from people. since I want to hold one of fast's famous "Special" events.

All Ideas are welcome

Here the stuff that's been done.

Traditional Gymkhana
Enduro Cross


and other Ideas.
DualCross (2 events in one day)
Culumucross (Cumulitive scoring, AKA tarmac rallycross)

A v. B Dixie Region does Axis V. Allies where British and American cars battle German and Japanese cars. French and Italian Cars have to switch sides during lunch. I would not steal their awesome format.. but East Vs. West. Japanese and Korean cars Vs. USA and Euro Steel (but based on where the car was built)

Need to run this past Steve. Only issue I see is that we are running a points series, so we don't want too many events to be non-points "special events".

I think there's another 2-day weekend on the schedule, though. Could do like we did last weekend, points one day, something different the other day. Or maybe even a 2-day special event.

I always wanted to do a course with one or more "options" in it. Like, a decision point where you choose to either run a slalom, or take a longer, but straighter line around to the same end point. It would bring new depth to "choosing a line". Ideally, both routes should be very nearly the same for most drivers to navigate. Could probably actually do that one as a regular points event, though.

We could do a "bracket racing" event where we give everyone a run or two to feel out the course, then have them "dial in" a target.

Time difference from the target is cumulative for remaining runs. Time quicker than the target is DOUBLED. In the end, the driver with the lowest score wins.

I like this kind of format because it doesn't matter what you drive, what kind of tires you're on, or what your actual run time is... if you're consistent, you can win!

I use to bracket race a really old beat up 69 Olds F-85 at Sunshine back in the 80's, it was a blast!!! Slower cars seem to do better IMO.

Next opp'ty for a "special" event is the two days in October in B'ville.

Cumulo-cross, bracket-cross, dual-cross, all sound like neat ideas. I honestly don't see us pulling off two events in one day - at least not without finishing after dark.

Steve, what he's proposing would be something like splitting into two run groups and running each group through 3 runs on a course before lunch, then changing the course and running each group through 3 more runs on the new course after lunch.

It could be done. Yeah, we'd have to be on the ball to pull it off, but it could be fun.

Especially fun if the courses have completely different flavors. One tight and technical, one loose and fast, for instance.

Yeah, I understand what Jeff is suggesting. I think it would be fun, and something new for us. And I'm not against it - I just think that for a group that usually gets first car off around 11 am, that it'd be a long day. Like you said, we'd have to be on the ball to pull it off. Enough folks there early for setup though, and for the course-change, and it'd probably work out fine.

I also like the 24 hour autocross Idea. For each 12 hours you want to run you have to work a 2 hour shift. no run groups.. Just work your two and plug the new worker in.. No need to be "on the ball" since the event runs all night. and anyone can run as much as they want during their Paid run time.

I think the only place we could do a 24-hour might be Brooksville, and even that's probably iffy. SPC wants us quiet by 10pm when we run there in the evening, plus they charge us by the hour. Lakeland... not sure.

I'm also not sure we have enough people to support a 24-hour event. Let's say everybody we know shows up... what do we get, 80 drivers? Divide that by 12 2-hour periods and you've got a total of about 7 workers at any given time. And you'd need to have experienced timing and safety personnel on-hand at all times.

Hate to be a party pooper, but I'm not sure we could pull it off... or that it would be worthwhile if we did.

The good news is that we don't need to. We proved last weekend that with a properly designed course, we can get as many runs as we want in under 6 hours with 48 drivers. A 12-hour event would be more than sufficient. Sun-up to Sun-down.

The thing is, though... this is Florida and people have other things to do. It's not like where you lived in NJ/PA or where I lived in KS where people are ITCHING for something to do and will actually spend 12 hours at an autocross and beg for more.

24 hours autocross sounds like fun to me, 12 hours is much more feasible.

It would seem to me that if you did exclusively Pre-Registration and had all of the work assignments ready to go before the event that it could be a great idea.

I for one would like to see it done and would be willing to assist/co- chairing the event with someone more experienced

How about a REAL enduro event? A very limited number of cars (4? 6?) each with teams of drivers. Driver change required after every run and every team member must drive. Teams must be big enough to also cycle people out to shag cones without ever pausing the runs.

And it just keeps on going so that it is hard on the cars and hard on the drivers too!

Hey Loren, do you know if we are doing the full course I heard from a friend of a friend that Jeff Lamm was talking about if because of the 90+ entrants this year in Kershaw...

I've heard rumors of full-course, but nothing confirmed. It'll be fun either way.

24s and 12s sure sound like fun, but are likely too complex and needy of workers,
I think. On the other hand, I sure enjoyed last weekend's endurocross. How about a super-endurocross, with quite long courses?
Some of the best AXing I've done have been Bay Bottom Crawl and the old style Martin Grand Prix. Both are loooong, more like SOLO 1, and are super fun. They practice Saturday, for hot laps on Sunday (and party saturday night).The long runs, the speed, the endurance test are good stuff. We have a lot of runway at B-ville.

I also would like to try night AX, never have.

I think a rent-a-car challenge would sort the greyhounds out pretty good. Just grab a few Hyundais for the day, and pass them around.

The morning-afternoon dual cross is really doable, change a few gates at noon, no need to change the whole thing. Or run it in reverse.

I support whatever is decided for these special, non-point events. One thing I enjoy about this club is the creativity and the thought that is applied to this game. There are other clubs which could easily paint boxes arund their cones..same old, same old. So, bring on the new ideas!

Finally, suggest this string is for course discussion.

Iffy. yep. Last time I checked with B'ville, they said curfew was sundown.


Combine the "real" enduro with teams and run-by-run driver changes and a rental car autocross...mmmm
