I'm going to have to drop out and give my spot to someone else.

Our kitchen remodel is behind schedule with an unbreakable deadline fast approaching (relatives coming to visit) so I'm going to have to spend the weekend working on putting the house back in order instead of shredding my tires.

The good news is that we are down to (mostly) cleaning up all the drywall dust, unpacking boxes and putting the contents away in the new cupboards and (finally!) setting up the home theatre system properly.

In fact, other than lending muscle to move boxes for my wife my main job this weekend is to get the TV in place, the screen calibrated (I've bought an excellent DVD for calibrating DLP screens), the speakers installed in place, the speaker wire fished through the attic as needed, and the speakers balanced. Except for working in the attic, it's all work I enjoy.

Don't worry, I'll still tow the trailer and come pick it up and the end of day.

When I applied the same math to the example on the website I got 3.3 and it showed 3.1.

This is where my confusion is.

From the website:
Forced induction (turbo or supercharger) bumps engine displacement by a factor of 1.5. (e.g. a 2.2 liter turbocharged engine would be classed as 3.1 liter)

2.2*1.5=3.3
3.1<3.3

Since the website showed it as 3.1 I thought there was more to it, then made the assumption that if my car came out to 3.0 it would also be lower thus being in G.

I think we should correct the website so people like me don't make the same assumption in thier favor.

LOL good point. that number seemed weird to me as well but I never did the math.

Oh well, at least now I can go for a ride with you, it's a lot easier now that we will likely be in different run groups.

A Samsung 56" DLP (HL-S5687W) screen, a decent upconverting DVD player (Samsung DVD-HD960), a Yamaha receiver (a few years old, "only" capable of 6.1 surround), some old but excellent speakers from a now defunct Canadian company (Camber -- all Vifa drivers) and a pair of 12" subwoofers using NHT 1259 drivers each with 250watt amps.

BTW, having at least 2 subwoofers, properly positioned, helps to eliminate standing waves (a problem with low frequency sound reflections) giving a much more uniform sound distribution. Instead of places in the room being louder or softer, the low frequencies just fill the room evenly.

The other key thing is to keep digital data (i.e. DVD content) in the digital domain as long as possible. So I'm using an HDMI cable for the video to the TV and a TOSLINK (fiber) connection for the audio to the receiver.

I've also got a BrightHouse HD DVR with an external (SATA) 300G drive connected via HDMI.

When I moved back here from college, I told myself that I'd spend the good money on the audio setup, since speakers last for a really long time. I picked up some really nice Mirage speakers. 7.1 setup, the whole thing. The nice thing about those, they're omnipolar, so precise aiming isn't terribly important. I still have a really crappy TV though. But the sound is awesome.


I'm going to have to run speaker wire through the attic at some point too, Bill. So don't feel bad. Let me know how it goes!

Well now that we are back off topic

52" LCD, an onkyo TX-NR901 receiver, an oldish sony progressive scan dvd player, rotel cd deck, pio cd deck, pio 604 LD, sony sacd player, hd dvr. xbox (for xbox media center). The receiver streams mp3's over the LAN so I rarely use anything but the xbox and receiver anymore.. speakers are all old school THX cert onkyo's, single dual 15" sub, L/C/R are matching with 2 mid bass, 2 mid range and 1 tweeter, the L/R are just in a floor standing cabinet, surrounds are bipole 2 mid range 2 tweeter setups. All controlled via a URC HTM series remote. Cabling is canare, monster and ar.

The speakers are starting to show their age, they've been through more than a few college parties back in the day and have been abused a few times.. probably will get some paradigm's next... some year many years from now
