Modified Street Tire Classes - What to do?

The committee did a good job with the production classes...seems logical that the mod classes would follow suit.

Well what about just add out Modification standards to the stock classes and a +1 class bump for non factory Forced Induction

that just adds simple to a fair base.

I'm not gonna try to think of examples, but there's a reason why SCCA doesn't do it that way. Some cars respond much more to the allowed mods (which, in our case, is anything but race tires!) than others do.

The easiest one is Howard's car. Stock it would be in our lowest class (J). Modified, it would be in our highest class (proposed Class 1).

I like the idea of the proposed SP-based split, with the FAST specific modifiers.

To make this "fair" adjustment as "simple" as possible for newbs, it would be wise to have a link to the current SCCA rule book with the page # on where to find the -SP cars. I also think it would be a good idea to have a printed/bound quick reference guide to SCCA classing in the field with us if we are to have every car on street tires be based on SCCA in some way. We may already have this, I'm throwing it out there anyways

We do. It's in the registration box. It gets used almost every event. We could put a copy in the trailer, too, for that matter.

That's a great idea. Go straight from car list to FAST class and not hassle with car list to SCCA to FAST class...fewer steps is better.

The only problem (not really a problem, just a thing) is that if we copy the lists into our own document, we then either have to accept that our classes aren't keeping up with the changes in the SCCA classes (probably not the best idea), or somebody will have to remember to update that document every year. It's simpler FOR US as things are, we just say "go to the SCCA's online rule book and look up your car".

Anytime we create more work, we create one more thing that can be forgotten, and one more thing we have to find someone to do.
