Another event down and no complaints on how the car feels currently, so not changing anything anytime soon.

When I had the rear diff refreshed and had extra clutch discs installed for more lock, the shop said people were getting more even wear on the tires from the rear diff change. My fronts would usually wear 2x quicker than the rears. Before the event on the 12th, my fronts were at 8/32 tread wear and my rear were 8.5/32. After the event, my fronts dropped to 6.8/32 and the rears was like 7.2/32. So the wear has surprisingly been a lot closer to even then it ever was. I did raise the front a half an inch prior to all this, so maybe that could've had a little affect. But regardless, my rears definitely grip harder now.

But my near future plans will be new air intake filter(current one getting pretty brittle). And a transmission cooler adapter. Not really wanting it for adding an oil pump or anything, but more for it allows oil to be splashed all over 4th gear so it keeps it cooler and happy. Normally I wouldn't care about something like that but when I sent my transmission in for rebuild. My forth gear didn't have any major damages but it was way more worn than the other gears(that didn't bust tooths) and had to be replaced or something could've happened later down the road. But again, this was 120k miles worth of wear and I probably would have something else happen before my 4th gear went bad.

Daniel: you should be proud of the work you've done. Quite accomplishment to R and R such components and have it back in working order.

The tighter diff definitely helped on my STI. When it was new, I could rally slide the car around a 90 bend on pavement - wicked fun. The Subaru specialists noted that precise action wears quickly and a rebuild really helps return the car to more neutral acceleration. Certainly, anything you can do to get the rear tires to work harder is a plus.

I remember a while ago when I took a ride in your Subaru, whenever you accelerated out of a corner, your rears gripped hard and rotated. I never really got that in the Evo. Getting the rear diff rebuilt really makes a pretty significant difference.

Not a performance upgrade but a comfort upgrade. I installed a new radio/CD player head unit. My OEM one had just a radio and CD player. Now I got bluetooth l, USB port, can take calls without hands now. This will make the trips to Dunnellon soooooo much better. :lust:

p.s I fixed my AC knob which was not staying in place due to the plastic shaft it was one breaking. Now I can run in M2 next season without the harrassment of it. :box:

It's good you've learned to keep it running yourself. Renault won't be making any parts for it ever. Nor will Fiat. End of an era. MisterBitchi made great cars back in the day even when they co-built with Diamond Star/Chrysler 20 years ago. :lust:

So got a nice handful of things I need to do hopefully before the end of the year on the mechanical stuff at least.

1. My front slotted rotors becoming blank rotors since they got worn so much. Already done about a month ago.

2. The whole timing, balance, and serpentine pullies, belts, tensioners, the whole shebang to get done. This will be a big project since I"ve never messed with the timing before and can destroy the engine if done wrong...

3. When doing the timing, I gotta replace the cam seals. One of the cam seals is leaking oil now.

4. Need to redo a couple o rings where the transfercase and transmission mate together. So will have to unbolt them apart and then add the orings. One of them is currently messed up I'm assuming when I put it all together so I have a small leak.

5. This one is kinda new. So after a couple days installing new front rotors, I was hearing a squeak, slicing noise when going above 20mph. Thought it was brakes, got car up on all 4 and was able to reproduce the noise and it was actually coming from the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. Evo driveshafts are non serviceable so Im picking up a used one in a couple of days. New cost over a grand...

6. I need to replace the drip moulding on the roof of the car, starting to come all apart. Cost a good couple hundred for both :roll: since of the shape, so shipping is a lot of the cost.

7. Roof of my cars clear is starting to haze up and go bad. Tried some polish and just made it worse. Needs to totally get redone. Not sure what approach to take on that yet.

The age of this car is really starting to show. I need to retire it from daily driving duties eventually.

Lot's of while you are in there stuff when doing timing belts.

How are the parts availability for the OEM stuff? Seems something to be concerned about with mitsubitshi being unstable? I remember seeing on the news a few months back the dealership in Tampa just closed one day...

The parts are no problem to get, but they can be expensive. Auto Tensioner, 150 bucks, alternator, 250-300 bucks, water pump 260. You get the gist lol. Some stuff Im getting is oem, and some Gates.

So I had a bad squeak going on sounding like it was from a carrier baring from my driveshaft. Swapped my driveshaft with a used one. No more squeak :thumbwink:

Ok so I planned on doing this next week but I had a 5 day weekend, so what the hell. Saw Loren was starting his timing job over the weekend so I'll just tackle mine. It was the first time I've ever done a timing job before and this is an interference engine. If I screw the timing up, my valves will look like Lorens mirages valves :snicker: . I pretty much was replacing everything. Water pump, balance belt, timing belt, balance tensioner, auto tensioner/tensioner pulley, and cylinder block bracket.

So this job took me a a pretty long time, hardest part was getting everything to line up right for timing(5 different areas). Ended up having to get someone that's done it a bunch of times on an Evo and he got it done in like 5 minutes. Anywho got everything up and running, so far so good and should be way easier the next time I do it in 60k miles.

All the parts being replaced.

Fun stuff, I've done the belt job twice on two b series hondas (first time with a friend) and even the second time I did it, I still didn't feel confident it was done correctly.

Were you having issues with the cams fighting each other while trying to get everything to TDC?

I was mostly struggling with balance and crank timing moving a tooth when tensioning the belt. Had to get someone to show me how to do it. Anyways I had a cam stopper so that wasmt really an issue.

So Im getting some stuff on the Evo resprayed/painted, def not doing it myself. Pretty stoked to see how it all comes out. Getting the bumper, front lip, hood, roof and some exterior pieces done, also a couple interior trim pieces redone. Some shots I got so far of the progress.

Here is the shot of the roof, clear/paint was failing as you can see from the white blotches. Buffing it just makes it worse so its definetly done.
