Howdy. Autocrossing an automatic isn't terrible - you'll see! And yeah, if you're looking to get a little seat time, we can sure offer that. Registration for the next event will be opening in a few days - grab yourself a spot and come say hey in person.

Not at Brooksville, but no problem at our St Petersburg events.

Hi there. I was cleaning out the car the other day, which was long over due, and stumbled across a business card with the FAST site info on it. Remembering that I received it while I was wrenching for a former place of employment, I searched and found this site and signed up.
I've signed up, like most of you I bet, because I love to drive. But, also because I would like to learn as much as I can about how to improve what little skill I posses and improve the handling characteristics of the car I own and hope to compete in. I look forward to checking out the next event in St Pete, which I understand is the one where you can watch.
I'd love to jump right in and do some of the events. However, I am a family man in my 40's and those of you that are in that age group know what that can mean about your "budget" for these types of things. Couple that with that fact that my car is an older one in need of some attention as is, it wouldnt be right to flog it out on your course and make a hash of things. It is a modified '93 240sx hatchback. I'd be curious what classification it would be in since it is not stock, but does not have the usual SR swap. Details of the car will come out soon enough as I use this Forum to pick your brains and follow up with you all after meets.
Thanks for reading and hope to see you out at an event soon.

Royce, welcome to the club. I just gotta say, you're over thinking it. You'll fit in just fine with our club. Most of us are on budgets and don't run the most advanced equipment, but its the driving experience we all crave.
I think we will be at the St. Pete College site in March. Watch this board and sign up (we like noobs) or just drop by and check it out.

Welcome, Royce! What class you end up in will depend on exactly what mods you have. Classing rules are on the website if you want to look it up, or just post a thread and ask.

Thanks for the welcome!!
I hope that I am over thinking things, because it is the driving experience that I crave as well. Though I dont think I need a ton of upgrade goodies to make runs in what ever class I land in, its more of a consideration of the cost a decent alignment, replacement of the tires on the car now and my power steering system.
Since the car I will enter is also my daily driver it currently is not suited or "course work". Its fine around town, but for spirited driving, not so much. One of the biggest issues would be the lack of power steering. By choice, I removed the power assist and de-powered my 180sx rack...something that would make a quick turn demanding course an upper body work out more than fun seat time.
I also think I'll post up a list of my modifications for all to see. That way I'll know what class I more than likely would run.

Hi Guys. I'm new to the Tampa area and looking to get back into autox after a few years off. I ran with the SCCA in NC for a couple years. I drive a slightly moded 305Z.
I ran timing and registraiton in Charlotte and at one point was a safety steward so hopefully I can be useful around here.
Looks like I missed registration for the next event but I'll get in early for March, unless about 10 of you want to drop out of next weekend :-)
At any rate, I look forward to meeting and running with you guys.

Hi John, I am sure you will be a great addition to the club. Tell us about your car.

Hey Buddy. The car is a 06 350 Z roadster. It has springs, swaybars, cats, exhaust, clutch, fly wheel, intake... probably some other goodies I'm forgetting. Unfortunatly I was running STR so the tires are lacking. I think they are 255s(the SCCA limit for STR) and to be honest I don't even remember what I have on there right now... Somthing that goes way beyond the street tire treadwear requirements :-) It's been at least a year since it's done anything but commute...

Hey, just stumbled on this thread. I moved to Palm Harbor from Northern Virginia just west of Washington D.C. about 6 months ago
I have been to 2 of your events so far at Brookesville and love the fast flowing courses, kudos to the designers.
I drive the silver BMW M Roadster. I started autocrossing about 5 years ago in the Washington D.C. SCCA Region, the D.C. BMW club and another small club called Autocrossers Inc.
Looking forward to the next event, fortunately I was quick enough to get registered.

I spent several years with all those folks -- FedEx events are the only thing I miss about D.C.

Just thought I would say "hi". I'm hoping to attend one of the events at SPC soon. I'm very superstitious about break-in, so I'm hoping I can hit that magic number, 1000, soon.

Hey there. Glad to have you join us. Next SPC event is in May, so there's plenty of time for you to rack up a few more miles...

Heck...sign up for a Brooksville event. Driving from base, you'll reach the 1000 mile mark on the way up.

Just rolled over 500 on the ODO today. My commute is on base too, so it's been
very slow getting there with no special trips planned. It's my first new car, so I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but I've been anxious to autocross for my first time.

This is a very easy problem to solve. Here's what you do:
Leave anytime between 5pm and midnight tomorrow.
Head to Daytona Beach to watch the sunrise.
Toss out a blanket and catch a nap on the beach.
Drive down the coast on US-1 (or I-95 if you must) and then across the state on I-75.
Catch a sunset at Marco Island.
Then, either head home, or grab a hotel for the night.
By the time you're done, you'll have another 600+ miles on your car and it will be broken in.
A car isn't really "yours" until you've road-tripped in it.
Welcome!

Nice road trip itinerary there Loren! If I didn't have two kids and one needing to stay VERY close to momma, the wife and I would be heading out on a drive tonight!
