I hear that there will be at least one van there already...
I already registered my van. I guess I can use my car if I have to. I was looking forward to the challenge of reverse with no rear windows.
If it matters, I used to drive a paper route in a full sized van. That's just a very large gymkhana.

Turn your van into the A-Team van by then and I'll think about it.
I'd suggest just blacking out the rear windows on your car for the same effect.

Meh. For me, it's an hour home and an hour back. 120 miles = 4 gallons of gas = $16. Way cheaper and I get to sleep in my own bed!
But, you might be able to hook up with some of the outta-towners and maybe get some room-sharing going on to make it work.
Or you could pitch a tent in Jamie's front yard.
Sorry, Loren you got it all wrong, I have to side with Greg on this one.
One cheap motel room = $60
Six fellow autoxers to share it with +
3 cases of beer +
1 or 2 bottles of JD +
Some wacky shenanigans to play on neighboring motel rooms at late hours =
Really interesting scores for the following days autocross.
Do I hear any takers from S2 class?

I'm stunned at the lack of registration for this event. Oh well, more seat time for the rest of us.
Even if you're not interested in the Gymkhana (which will be fun!), the practice course will be worth turning some laps on.

In the past the airport has not allowed overnights. We can leave stuff, but we have to be out by dark.
There's a decent motel (dunno, like a Quality Inn or something) on 54 at I 75. About 20 min from the airport.
If one has an RV they do have a permanent site inside the gate where they tell us "SLOW DOWN".
Assuming one is hooked up with those people or moves in those circles? I know they have a big roundup every year with a couple thousand visitors there. Don't think anyone does tents due to fireants, etc.
There are a group of decent motels at Rt50 and I75 and also a group near Rt50 and Rt19.
About 15 miles from the airport. Cheapest is $51 for two occupants. Microtel or Quality.

What is the plan for the practice course? How long, etc.?

Practice course will be based on the Sunday course, which we're still working on. Ideally, it will be the far end of Sunday's course with very little modification.
The Gymkhana course is short, so with a secondary grid area, we'll probably have space for about half of the Sunday course.

Uhuh. Well that little tidbit of info should generate some more entries...

Perhaps one of those famous online FAST "polls" would determine the "deal"?
Q: Would you ALSO show up on Sat 15th if it was a mirror (reverse start/finish) practice course of the points event on 16th? Meaning would you run BOTH events?
Answer Yes or No
Then "maybe" we would see if it's purely financial or if the vast majority's idea of "FUN" means driving fast in forward motion ONLY or if people simply will run one normal event/weekend at Brooksville due to distance?

The fact that registration for Sunday's event has been stalled at 55 entries for several days tells me that it is partially economic. Unfortunately, driving all the way out to Brooksville adds to the expense of autocrossing. Doing so twice in one weekend doubly so. Another factor is just that people are too busy these days. We have trouble getting people to commit to just being at a SINGLE day of autocross without bailing out early. For a lot of people, 2 days is just asking too much.
It is the nature of our club to be casual... perhaps we've cultivated a group of people who just aren't hard-core enough for 2-day autocross weekends? Looking back, I don't think we did a 2-day last season. I think the last one we did was the 2009 Enduro... day 1 (the actual Enduro) saw 33 entries. Day 2 (a regular event) saw 42 entries. The Brooksville event the month prior had 49 entries.
I'm not doing a poll. Feel free.

I have been wanting to do this ^^^ again for a while. I dropped the ball last year and the enduro fell thru.
But, I am looking forward to something new (to me).
Less folks = lotsa seat time!!! So stay away, I'll take your runs!

That pattern's pretty normal -- there's a rush at the front, then it slows down, then a rush a few days prior to pre-registration ending. Followed by a bunch of notes asking whether it's too late to register, and will we have a wait list.

Round trip for me to Brooksville is 230 miles... but, I have really wanted do a Gymkhana for years and if I find out I don't have to work by the Oct 6th cut off date, I will be there.
