Hmm...the classing chart says, "ask". I think that means Jeremy decides where it'll cause the most havoc. :) Otherwise, I'd guess S1.
It says "ask" because SCCA does not classify the car in stock category, which means "it's too fast for Super Stock", which means it's WAY too fast for our combined SS/AS/BS class.

The last time this came up (very recently), I sent the car to it's appropriate Mod class. Seemed like the fairest way to handle it. In this case, the car is eligible for M2. Seems like a good fit to me.

For our purposes, probably the only relevant part of the WS6 package is the springs, which are stiffer and lower than standard. Springs put you in Mod.

:headscratch:
what about a BMW M series or a Mazda Speed or AMG all run in stock classes
in 1997 almost half the trans am sold where ws6
I just don't want to mod my car to be competitive

I can't see that car being faster than a c5 z06 or c6 grandsport or gt3 or Lotus Elise all of which are legal for s1.

I would try to prove that the car should be legal for S3 since it appears the 98-02 WS6 is legal for S3. Why it that one different? Got any specs?
From the rules it appears that the "Level 1 and 2 suspension packages" are the reason for it not being stock legal. That might bump it from S3 but I don't see a reason why it can't run in s1.

I think we should put him S1. The 1998-2002 base WS6 is in S3. I know that the 98-02's were made in house and the suspension were not as good as the LT1 variants like Chris's 97 that were made by SLP Performance, but the 97 WS6 is not radical enough to be in a mod class. Unless someone can point me to an article that shows a large improvement in handling over a base Trans Am I think we should put him in S1. The straight line speed of a stock LT1 is no better than an S2000 or Turbo Sky/Solstice and the handling is equal to worse even with the SLP suspension and the brakes are worse. Just my opinion. :dunno:

NOT eligible for Stock Catagory My bad.
Chevrolet Camaro SS and
Pontiac Firebird WS6 (Level
1 & Level 2 suspension packages)
(4th gen) (1993-2002)

SCCA F StockPontiac = S3 FAST
Firebird (V8, NOC)
Firebird Trans Am & Formula
(WS6, base car only, including
GM-installed 1LE) (1998-
2002)
G8 (V8 & NOC) (2008-09)
GTO (2004-06)
Trans Am Turbo (V-6)

OR like was mentioned with "lowering" springs you can run Mod @ Fast
What does your VIN say it is? I'll take your word for it. You know a Pontiac is an Orphan right?

For all those hopeful folks volunteering for setup...those work positions have been claimed for days, but we have two teardown positions just waiting for someone to volunteer....

I didn't even look at that last weekend. Didn't we buy an extra bag last time to get us through this event?

I loaded the trailer and I don't remember seeing any bags, however the chalk machine was very heavy.

Doesn't anyone have a connection for old grubby flour/wheat? That would be environmentally correct and sort of Hansel and Gretel breadcrumbs. Don't laugh they used that in Port of Toledo. But they had grain elevators there. The birds loved it and it was free.

We used to use flour. But, SPC asked us not to use it. They claim it attracts ants. It also turns to genuine glue if it gets wet in the spreader.

I sign up for m2 when I picked up the car last night I noticed it had headers then today I noticed the heads wernt the same color as the block also a magnet would not stick to them so I'm pretty shore it's aluminum heads. I have to put a water pump on it and I'm doing the opti spark so who knows what else I'll find when I start pulling it apart :dunno:
