As for enforcement, we need EVERYONE to help with that!
If you see someone disregarding safety rules or otherwise doing something that could get somebody hurt, TELL THEM. Or, if you're timid, TELL US and we'll tell them. But, don't let it go.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
I must have "missed" who Chaired and Co-Chaired this Sept 15 event.
I did enjoy chasing cones at brooksville and helping to tech cars. I would like to learn the GRID and Flagging/Starter this go around. Whom ever is assigned these duties I would like to shadow you.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
You didn't miss anything, September 15th hasn't happened yet. Perhaps you're thinking of the August 19th event? Nobody has chaired (or volunteered to chair) September 15th yet.BrandLoyal wrote:I must have "missed" who Chaired and Co-Chaired this Sept 15 event.I did enjoy chasing cones at brooksville and helping to tech cars. Chairman and Co-Chairman for August were Steve Frank and myself, I'm not sure which one of us was the Chairman. Must have been Steve.
I usually do work assignments, and honestly, being a new guy, it's unlikely that you'll get assigned to grid and almost certain that you won't get assigned Starter as your work assignment. (the reasons being mostly a combination of experience required, and a handful of people who are physically unable to chase cones for various reasons who need to be put into non-running positions) That said, you're welcome to shadow any of those positions whenever you're not actively working another position or driving!
You may want to give these pages a read if you haven't already.

We're at 56 entries. Still looking for a chairman. It would be really sad to cancel the first event of the new season due to nobody stepping up to run it.
<soapbox>Lack of volunteers is what killed the SCCA events on this coast. Don't let that happen to us!</soapbox>

Re: September 15 @ SPC
Not sure I'll be there and I did the last one, so I'm not going to do this one again. I will say that this is a well documented process that runs very smoothly. If you have any questions please pm me. If you don't want to run the driver's meeting, I'm sure someone else will do it - the script is already done. Like I said, the club has made it an easy process. Someone just has to be "the guy/girl" to herd all of the cats and make sure that the tasks (again, the list is already there, just follow it) are addressed.
I've done it twice and I've never had someone say no when I've asked for anything at all.
Just Do It!

Re: September 15 @ SPC
Thanks, Ron. We've had plenty of first-time event chairman do the job just fine over the years. The whole point of our event chairman program is that the same people don't have to do it every time. I don't expect Ron to chair another event before next year. I don't expect ME to chair another event before next year. But anyone who's been running with us for a while and either never chaired an event, or not chaired one in a long time...
Like Ron said, it's mostly a matter of reading the Event Chairman guide and making sure that things get done before, during and after the event. A good event chairman actually DOES very little, he or she just makes sure to find responsible people to do things and follows up to be sure they are done.
Need a voice to do your driver's meeting? No problem, there are people who are good at that and will do it if you ask. Don't feel qualified to design a course? No problem, you can recycle one of your favorites, or delegate to someone else (I'm almost always up to design a course as long as you don't wait until the last minute to ask). As event chairman, think of yourself as middle management. You don't "do", you "delegate".
Oh, and for their trouble, event chairmen get an event credit for use at a future event.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
That all said, I'd recommend anyone with less than a half-dozen or so events accumulate some additional time before trying this. An event chairman needs to know "do", "delegate", and "decide" -- the last two are difficult if you're not familiar with the first.Loren wrote:A good event chairman actually DOES very little, he or she just makes sure to find responsible people to do things and follows up to be sure they are done...You don't "do", you "delegate".

Re: September 15 @ SPC
The solution there is to find an experienced person to co-chair with you. Steve and I are always available to help with decisions. With that, I'd say a minimum of about 3-4 events coupled with sufficient maturity and good organizational skills can get the job done.

Re: September 15 @ SPC
I registered, but there is a chance I'll have to work. Will know and cancel by Sept 2nd if need be. Praying I can find time to get the car fixed...might just have to show up in the truck!
As for chairing, it's quite a good experience. I did it after only my 6th event. It's all about gathering volunteers and making sure things are running in order. You can always have someone design a course for you if you feel you're inexperienced. Run orders and work assignments are already handled.

All you slackers are off the hook for this one, Doug Adams is going to chair with Steve backing him up. We're in good hands.
We just need to talk Ron into doing the 2-day FAST weekend in October! Maybe if someone offered to co-chair with him?

All you "Slackers" are back on the hook since I now have the first job I've undertaken in over 6 years.Loren wrote:All you slackers are off the hook for this one, Doug Adams is going to chair with Steve backing him up. We're in good hands.![]()

You help. We all have a great time. You don't help I remember why I haven't had a job in over 6 years.

Specific Sept. Event Rules:
Tell Steve he doesn't look a day over 37. Let Steve drive your very fast expensive car for the event and whole weekend if he likes it. Tell Loren he looks younger than Steve.
Win win situation. Do it.
