Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
You can preset most of the course on Saturday. We'll still need the setup crew to verify it, safety check it, probably do a pre-run on it, and then mark it. It won't take as long as a full setup, but it will still take some time.
It will definitely be nice to be that far ahead in the morning!

So Doug, Matt, are we designing a course or just gonna recycle another old one?

Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
I sent one to Loren before he took off this weekend so he can think about it in re to the new format. Technically an "old" one that nobody ran so it would be "new" to virtually everyone. The advantage of using that one for this new format is we pretty much exactly know how long it took between Howard and my flatout times for an average time consumption on the day.Native wrote:So Doug, Matt, are we designing a course or just gonna recycle another old one?
I always try to keep a new one in my back pocket if all else fails so don't get caught with pants down. Don't know if Matt will have enough time to dream up and get approval on a fresh course? Some people tell me of this "work" thing they do? BUT he's welcome to try as always. We'll do our best to make it work. So long as it's not a pin cone

Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
Everyone in FAST is really spoiled. Everywhere else I go there is NO preview of the course. IF there is a course map it is scribbled on a piece of paper or napkin and copied sometimes? Even the experienced drivers are requesting to scale copies for their playstations and xboxes? Maybe even into their GPS? The ability to read a course was one of the key factors in winning autocross. Sigh.RacingHart71 wrote:I know id like to see the course asap so I will know where I will suck the most. Im signing up later today, after work. That said I noticed on the last National SCCA autocross all the slaloms were mandatory and marked with pointer cones. Guess modern people have lost their ability to read maps, markers and slopes?
This following example is one I saved just because it was a fun long course. Won't quite fit on SPC due to that concrete pad and grid requirements. Notice the statement at the bottom: "Not quite to scale."

Had iI known that traditionally the course is not revealed I never would have asked. Im such a novice that 1) I didn't know any better and 2) it won't make any difference.

No worries Royce we usually do post the course ahead of time. The thing is the posted course is subject to change at setup so a lot of us feel it isn't worth studying too much. Regardless, once the design is approved it'll be posted...just keep your eye on this thread.

Royce, you don't need a course map, you drive a 240, just drop the clutch and close your eyes and let the awesomness of the Nissan be your guide. That's what I've been doing lately and I think that's what Charles and Jeremy do anyhow......RacingHart71 wrote:Had iI known that traditionally the course is not revealed I never would have asked. Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
Our club usually does post the course a week or two before the event. What Doug is saying is that y'all who have never run with other clubs are spoiled because most DON'T do it.
Personally, I think it helps novices A LOT to have a fairly accurate course map. We also have a review process in which the course designer works directly with a safety person, and then the course is finally approved by me, Steve and safety. This gives us courses that are safe and of consistent "quality". We might occasionally throw something weird out there (nothing REALLY weird without warning), but our courses generally have good flow, are easy to follow and fun to drive.
This isn't something we "have" to do, a lot of clubs don't. It's something we CHOOSE to do because we think it's important.
So, as Steve said, we'll post the map when it's ready.

Just channel my inner Skywalker I guess. LoL. The maps do help, especially when you walk the course, so you dont get lost...hehehe.
Just took spot #31 for the late secession.
How would I go about working the morning secession? Are all the volunteer spots full up?

Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
Just let me know you're interested. (you just did) One of several things can happen. If we are in actual need of help (as in, we just plain can't accomplish what we need to do without your help), I'll put you on the worker list and give you an event credit for working double-duty. If we're not really "in need", but you just want to come help out, I can just put you on the worker list (if it's not full). Or, the last case... if the worker list is already maxed out... we just won't be able to add you.RacingHart71 wrote:secession[/url]

As it stands, I don't think we'll be "in need" for the morning session, but I'll put you on the list and you can help wherever you feel like (maybe be a third wheel in Timing and learn a little about that?) and if we do end up with a need, we'll hit you up. Do let me know if your plans change and you can't make it so that I can free up that worker slot in case we need it.
Kinda being conservative with the guest/worker slots until we've been through a split event at Brooksville. Depending on how things go, we may not need to be so tight with them. (so far, morning session is at 44 drivers and 11 combined workers/guests. So, even if each of the 6 yet-to-register drivers signs up a guest, that's only 17 guests... and that leaves 3 slots of our available 20 for non-drivers... meaning we just might not need to worry about it so much)

Registered! Late shift.
Jim Swayne smoked me in the last event. Time to go back to S1!
Wait a sec. I just checked my class. The RX8 is now S2. Hmmm. Can I drive a S2 car in S1? That seems fair, but I don't know. Maybe I'll change it to S2.

Uh, better check the the results page again. Jim Swayne IS already in S1. Those of us in S1 who are getting whupped are hoping he'll go to a mod class or put on race tires again. If you join S1 too, the competition will be ramped up another notch!Jim Swayne smoked me in the last event. Time to go back to S1!

Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
I don't know, Doug. If they are in my car's class, that means the car is probably capable. The only limiting factor is me
Looks like George beat me by a tenth a few months ago, so that should've triggered my return to my proper class. I guess he won't be a regular though.
Eva, yeh, I know he's in S1. I meant it's time for ME to go back to S1 because somebody in my old class beat me fer and squer. But then, I forgot about the class shake-up in SCCA last year or whenever it was.

So I see at least 6 drivers that will want a piece out of your ass now....hahahaha.
Welcome to S2(C stock) the land of lost souls and M1 wannabees. I will practice listening to the loud pedal for the next few weeks. My tires are broken in now too.

Re: April 14 - Brooksville - Another Split Event
Less than 2 weeks left to register for this one. There's like one driver slot left for the morning, and a about 20 in the afternoon. Check the entry lists (Early and Late), if you see any of your friends missing, it's time to rattle their cage!
As it stands, we're at close to 80 entries, which is 15 more than our previous 65-car Brooksville limit. It's nice to not be turning people away for a change.
