Re: Endurocross 2013
I want to extend a huge thanks to everyone that helped me out with tools and extra hands. And Steve for letting me use his car to run to Auto zone, TWICE!
Without you guys, instead of getting my old corroded parts replaced in time to make my runs, I would have been riding home with a tow truck.
I also wanted to mention that Matt Sullivan and the guys re-packed the trailer excellently. It may be the first time that everything doesn't fall over into a big pile before the next event.
Wish I could have spent more time spectating, I missed a lot of good runs. And, I never got a chance to really check out the new Swayne-mobile. Sure looks nice. Interested to see what Rob has in store for his latest project.

Damn, picked a hell of a time to attack the cones, but I totally over drove that last lap. That raw time sure would have been nice!

Good event as always.
I kind of sucked...need to get used to driving the Camaro again.
Threw away the second run for an impromptu drift session...totally worth it
Oh and guess I need a new muffler...apparently the old one is getting too loud...

Thanks to everyone for putting on this event. Despite the heat, it was a great time. Here's my first and best run...which I was basically learning the course on the first lap. Congrats to Rob, but we shall battle again @ Andersen in a few weeks.

A special thanks to Niles (forgive my spelling if it's wrong) for his scanning tool. Alas, I think the VANOS is done. "Vanos mechanical jamming" was the culprit of my shortened second run...basically put my car into limp mode mid run

Re: Endurocross 2013
Scott, I think you posted the same link twice above. But, I went out and looked at some of your other vids.
You've come a long way in the "push harder, suck less" department, my friend!
If there's one thing I'd suggest trying to work on, especially on a course like this, it's to learn to use the cornering grip of the car more. In the tighter sections and slaloms, you seem to be doing okay. But in things like the big cross-course sweepers, you're yanking a tight turn "because you can", and making straights in between those turns. I suspect that you'd be faster through there if you smoothed out your line and made it more a big S-turn than a series of 90's. If you could generate the same G-level (which, of course, you could) on a wider arc, you'd be going through the turn at a greater speed.
It's the classic "turn earlier, turn less" mantra. Watch what you're doing in the S-turns. Turning "late" and "hard". A little more setup would allow a smoother and less abrupt turn.
It's a little harder to pick up watching Eric's "wheel cam", but if you watch... especially in his first lap, he's setting up and making those turns more smoothly than you are. Jesse's video is pretty good in that regard, too.

Re: Endurocross 2013
Thanks Loren, I really appreciate the advice. It is easy to use the 'point and shoot' approach with all the go-go our car will provide, and every time, I know I'm giving up time, ... that sticky + HP & torque is like Crack to an addict, easy to get but not always optimum results
. Here's the link I meant to post above (with that damning 2nd lap slalom cone..) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PxKEBj9EfA I did try to smooth the cross course transitions out in the last couple laps. Any input appreciated.

Re: Endurocross 2013
Very fun event, and very hot one too ! I didn't realize that I was going to be making my famous "creamed cones" dish, but apparently it was on the menu.
You know you're driving badly when you exit the turn around and see course workers criss-crossing the course. If it weren't for my cone addiction I would've scored a top 15 finish.
Thanks to John and Loren and the "usual gang of idiots" for putting on another fun and enjoyable event.
I would've stayed a little while and chatted but I wasn't feeling my best (more later).
I really didn't think reversing the course would be an issue with me, but for some reason I decided that on my first lap on the second heat that I should cross the course just one more time after the third florescent cone
. My mind was starting to fail me a bit out there on the second heat.
Speaking of heat, I believe I was in the first stage of heat exhaustion after my runs were complete. I drank plenty of water but I don't think my body could process it fast enough. When I started to load up the trunk of my car right after my runs, I started to feel light headed and nauseous . Luckily I was smart enough to notice it and went and sat in the shade in the trailer and put a cold wet towel over my head and rested a bit. I'm guessing it was because the 3rd run group had so few cars running, and when I finished my work assignment I was immediately ask to drive in that group. I felt fine at the time and had no problem driving, but in hindsight I probably should have waited and sat in the shade for a few minutes.
I'm uploading my first run video and will post it whenever it finishes (probably tomorrow lol)

Re: Endurocross 2013
I think I had some pretty solid heat exhaustion yesterday, too. I kept telling myself to sit in the shade, but never managed to stay there for very long! Wasn't too bad during the event, but after I got home, I picked up a wicked headache that stuck with me until sometime after 2am!
Really glad it wasn't a 2-day event.

My head was pounding on the way home, but after 30 minutes in the ice cold 240sx AC I felt fine by time I got home. I guess I'm just not as young and tough as I use to be lol .
Here's my video. For some reason I didn't get the first few seconds after the start.

Here are some pictures I took at the event. If I took a picture of your car, I probably have a couple more on my computer. PM me and I'll send them to you.
My brakes actually boiled/faded hardcore on the third lap, had to cruise a bit to get them back. We should do more Endurocross!

Re: Endurocross 2013
I think we've done it at SPC before. There are a couple downsides to it.shakedown067 wrote:Lets do that again at SPC.
SPC site rental is over twice what we pay for Brooksville. For a limited entry event, that's not good. We could do it, but we'd probably have to do an even higher entry fee. (I cringe at $50, myself... but nobody seemed to mind too much) The shade sure would be nice, though!
The other thing about SPC is that the laps would be much quicker. We'd do more of laps, of course. But, I think a longer course is more fun. Our target is usually 3-4 minute runs. 4 minutes on a typical Brooksville course is about 4 laps. 4 minutes on a typical SPC course is 8 laps. I think we did 6 laps at the SPC enduro, and it's just a different experience. Fun, for sure... but more repetitive.

TBD is even more expensive than SPC. So, again... possible, but the entry fee would probably end up creeping up to $65-70. Would be a fantastic site for an Enduro. I just don't know if we'd get enough entries at that price.jesup16 wrote:Is Tampa Bay Downs an option at any point?shakedown067 wrote:Oh I wasn't really serious. This topic maybe should be a new thread? Maybe we could do a couple less SPC events, a couple more Brookesville events and use the savings for TBD events.
