Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
Okay, time to uncork this event! All of those who have been invited have had ample opportunity to register, and there are still plenty of slots left.
So, now if you:
- Have competed in a minimum of 3 autocross events
AND
- Have competed in at least 1 FAST event
You may register for this event.
Remember that shirt orders may be delayed for those who register after Wednesday, Nov 20. (we can still get them, they just won't be ready in time for the event)

Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
We need to round out some classes! I'd like to see a full S1 class, and it would be good to at least make a complete class out of S4/S5 cars.
Remember, every entrant is guaranteed 6 runs. Three practice and three competition. And for every competition round you win, you get an additional run!

I'm in. Thanks for opening this unique event up. Only one prior event with FAST, but 10 years with SCCA and others.

Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
I think Duel and it's predecessors have been the most fun I've had autocrossing. Competition and rivalry is part of the fun of autocrossing, and this event hones that to a fine point. And the best part is that you don't always have to be the fastest to win! If your opponent cones or spins on that one run against you... doesn't matter if they were faster or cleaner on every other run, YOU WON that match.

Registration closes on December 1st. That's next Saturday.
So, before everyone gets into Full Turkey Mode... if you've been meaning to register, don't forget to do it this week.

Yep, and I was mistaken above. December 1 is Sunday. So, tomorrow night is the deadline for entry.
And the Duel is next Sunday!

Car is still apart and trailer isn't done yet. Looks like I won't make it this month. In fact, even january may be tough since I have to fix my daily driver before I can get back to the race car.

Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
Yeah, S2 is going to end up being split. Some of the top seeds will merge with S1 (S1 will bump down), and some of the lower seeds will merge with S4 & S5. Gotta come up with 8-car brackets!

Will this event be scored towards championship points or is it an indivual event?

Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
Man, this week is getting away from me!
Here's the class groupings for the Duel. We use a standard 8-car double-elimination tournament bracket. Doing 7-car groups worked well for the entries that we had, so each bracket will be one car short and some lucky driver in each group will get an early freebie "bye" run.
The seed order was derived from previous event results, and you may notice that in some of the combined classes, a driver in a "slower car" sometimes has a higher seed than a driver in a "faster car". It happens. Handicaps are based on the class of the cars. So, if you're in a combined class and competing against someone in a car from a "faster class", you will be allowed a handicap. You don't HAVE to take it! In fact, in most cases, you probably don't "need" to take it. (the notable exception being R1/M1) But, don't go giving away your handicap and taking your second loss against a "faster car" when you have the opportunity to take a handicap. Duel is a cut-throat game! Take no prisoners.
A reminder on how this works: The bottom seed in each class gets to choose their first opponent (and choosing the "bye run" is an option if there are only 7 cars in class). Then the next driver up who hasn't run yet gets to pick from the remaining drivers. More of the same until all drivers in class have taken their first run. That fills out the initial bracket and the chips will fall where they may from there!

Hey, where is Chris M on the list...does he just race in the final round?
Probably better for his clutch...that was his last excuse as he left most of us in his dust...

Re: FAST Duel 2013! December 8 @ SPC
Chris is having technical difficulties with his turbo setup. Apparently, it was intimidated by Porsches last weekend.
Also, just had to move Johnny Lambert from M2 to S2. His Miata engine swap has hit some snags, so he'll be in his RX-8.
Hopefully, there won't be any more changes and everyone will show up!
