I'm not sure why the Mayor bought Cherry Coke Zero... been trying to get rid of it for two events now!

Just a thought about the upcoming event, I know it's a "classic" event, but with 30 some drivers, with 3 run groups, that makes for a quick turn around when you're driving. It kinda takes away from the "classic" theme when you finish a run and don't have enough time to get out of you car and check your time, or chat with other drivers, before you have to drive again.

We have about 30 drivers for the day, I was thinking, maybe we could just split the drivers into two groups. Have them both run in the morning, have a nice lunch, and then run two groups again in the afternoon ? With a short course it should be easy to do time wise. Or take a vote and see how many people will use the slalom course, if there's not many, maybe we could just make the course longer by adding a long slalom somewhere ?

We're a step ahead of you, Brian. This Classic will be run just like the last one (only smoother). That is: we'll be splitting drivers into 3 WORK groups, and they'll work for about 75-90 minutes each. When you're not working, you're free to drive either the course or the practice slalom. That gives us a grid of about 18-20 cars, and a sufficiently "casual" amount of time between runs.

This method should work okay for events with 30-40ish entries. Less, and we'll have to do two groups (but, if there's less, the whole Classic event model may be at risk), and if there's more than about 45, we can do a standard 3-groups format with 15 cars per group.

90 minute work assignments on 1-man stations? Might have to rethink my definition of "fun" for next weekend...yard work is starting to look attractive.

12 cars in a group, 1 car out every 30 seconds, 1 run cycle every 6 minutes...that's 10 runs in an hour. Less overlap, maybe we only get 8 runs in an hour. And the workers aren't stuck out there for an hour-and-a-half dodging fire ants.

Yup, but from what I see, we only have 30 entries. I hate to say, but there will probably be less ?

I'm just throwing it out there, whatever gets decided I will be good with it.

We like to try to stick with 3 groups if at all possible because if we don't, then the "Classic" becomes a lot more like our split-format Championship events. Two groups with one group working and one group running... you never see half of the people at the event, and you're too busy trying to get your runs in to spend any time socializing. These are things that people liked about the FAST events of years gone by, and a big part of what we're trying to recapture with the Classic events.

So, yeah, we have 31 drivers, and there will likely be one or two no-shows. (statistically, there should be 2-3, but so far people have been good about showing up for Classics) I think we can still muddle through with 3 groups.

Loren wrote: Okay, here's the course. Decided to have a little fun with some "optional" narrow gates. What we did was split some wide gates with a cone in the middle, and that cone will be offset to one side. It will be wide enough for any car that is registered for the event to get through, you just have to be confident in your ability to get close to an apex.
Hmmm, so, here is a question...Would you consider there being no penalty called if a driver knocks down both a green and orange cone, in the same gate? :D :D

But, seriously, I really liked "work groups" and not being focused on "run groups", provided there is someone available to work grid.

That would be a two-cone penalty, of course. I'd consider giving you a pass if you manage to hit all three cones. 8-)

Grid has been made a priority position to keep things flowing smoothly. :whip:

Do these get cancelled for rain?
It looks like it's going to start raining tonight and rain all day Saturday.
Since I've already paid, am I committed to going or loosing my money?
Where did I put my copy of the art of racing in the rain. :)
