Also, I forgot to mention but I had fun helping with timing setup. Ron did a great job explaining how that all gets setup. Definitely hope to get a chance at that again. And big thanks to Evan for the bump stops. One step close to new shocks so I can get more out of my tires.

MSDOS ver 1.5 and 2.5?

Classes can only get too small and disappear. Bigger is better!! We can all option out our cars at will. S1 had 14 cars so we must need more old Vettes!! Before lead feet were prohibited.

Thanks. Looking at the video I feel pretty good about that run. Although I see a couple of places where I should have kept it floored and hung on and trusted the tires... Probably could have carried more speed at 0:10, 0:20, and 0:48...

I know, I know. But, several people have mentioned the fact that the two classes that make up our current M2 are not actually the best fit. We ponder such things from time to time. And we'll be pondering them more seriously a couple months before the end of the season to decide if we should make any changes.

So, your comedy was just a good segue into mentioning that possibility.

I couldn't agree with her more. best autox experience to date for me as well. looking forward to doing many more with you guys.

we were discussing tonight that it would be great if there was actually a way to "practice". unfortunately, we don't have an large open areas near us and the cops would have us in jail right quick even if we did. Any suggestions?

As a relative newcomer to autocross, I have pondered the same question many times. I have come to the conclusion that the best way to practice autocross is to do more autocross It is a safe place to learn with no concerns about getting in trouble with the law / neighbors / business owners etc. As well as having plenty of experienced people on hand for advice and feedback.

My first experience with FAST (and autocross period) was the 2014 FAST novice school. It was the perfect introduction to the sport. If you qualify for it this year ( I think you have to have completed no more than 5 events) I highly recommend it as you get a full day's seat time with very thorough instruction.

I don't recommend "practicing" at speed anywhere that you don't have specific permission to do so. And even then, remember that we design our courses to be safe and avoid obstacles and have run-off room and things like that. If you don't have the experience to know how to do that, you could go out hooning in a parking lot and find yourself in a curb or a light pole or something!

As I mentioned to Angel (I was one of the instructors who rode with her), you CAN practice on the street doing "no-impact" excercises where it is safe to do so. Little things that can make a HUGE difference on autocross day. Things that won't get you into trouble and don't require you to break any laws or even risk pissing anybody off.

Before I waste time re-typing a bunch of stuff that's been said before, Read This. You can and should practice driving "the racing line" within your lane anytime you're driving. Another thing you can practice is car-position. When there's no traffic to interfere with you, experiment with placing your car close-to or on road reflectors. With practice, you should be able to place a front tire anywhere you want it at your whim.

You don't have to drive FAST to do any of that! You can do it all within your normal traffic lane at legal speeds.

Couple it with forcing yourself into a proper driving position (rather than a gangsta lean or whatever) with both hands on the wheel, and you'll be well on your way to learning good habits. Bonus points for forcing yourself to quit tailgating so that you can "look ahead" (beyond the idiot in front of you) even on the street. That will get you in the habit of looking and thinking further ahead, which will help with autocross (and track driving if you do it), as well as simply making you safer on the street.

Oh, and don't forget video games.
