Re: April 25 - FAST Classic T&T
I don't doubt the challenge, just see an opportunity to use most of the runway's width to layout some large sweepers or other elements we typically can't do with 2 cars on course and large overlap requirement. I haven't been around much lately, will our wireless timer work well enough to do a one-way course for a future classic event? Planning to be there either way, going through autoX withdraw.

Re: April 25 - FAST Classic T&T
You haven't been out in the while. The fields are all beaches right now. We don't want fast sweepers that get anywhere near the edge.
And we do stuff like that at Classic events often. (before the fields were plowed... and replowed) This event had a specific purpose, and the course was designed to mesh with that purpose.
We could possibly do a one-way course. Haven't really tested full-range distance on the timer. But, I've heard from people who did it once that it really wasn't all that. You kill a bunch of time getting drivers back from the far end, and the course isn't really that different.

YES ^. I was at a event that did a one way course. The time it took for the group to make 3 runs was about as long as it would take to make 5 or 6 normal runs. It seems like a good idea on paper, but it didn't work for them, though they weren't as efficient as running a event as FAST.Loren wrote: We could possibly do a one-way course. My new job started and my hours say I can race! I'll be on borrowed tires so this will be interesting.

Sure hope I can get a spotter of this event, I should get some great shots as the cars spin past meLoren wrote:This is the "spin it or win it" challenge! We put the slalom right up the middle, so you can drive it as hard as you want without fear of spinning into the grass.

Re: April 25 - FAST Classic T&T
I thought the purpose of a test and tune was testing and tuning. If I have to worry about timing and working , it takes away from the purpose. Previous test and tunes had much fewer people, timers ran so you could see your time but there was no official timing, course work was limited and in fact most people reset their own cones. This allowed for tire and suspension changes and even some parts changing. Also allowed for back to back runs as well as longer periods between runs for adjustments.
In an ideal setting (yes I know that it isn't a likely scenario), you would do a few runs to get a baseline time. Then you would spend time on the skidpad to dial in your camber and tire pressures and tire selection, then you would do an oval or figure 8 to work on your toe and caster, then you would return to the course to see your improvements. This would give you time to check tire temps, times, have cool downs as necessary, and get the most out of a test and tune.

Re: April 25 - FAST Classic T&T
This isn't that kind of test & tune, Howard. This is more a "Classic Event" with bonus test & tune elements.
The event you're looking for is the "Nationals Practice" event that we've got scheduled for August. IF enough people register for it (so far, the count is zero, but it's a few months out), there will be open timed runs and NO course work so that you can focus on your car and driving. But, that's not what the event this weekend is.

I still have a car in pieces. I had a torn trans axle boot and I thought I ordered the part, only to find that I had forgotten to click "ok". so I have been waiting 2weeks for parts that were not coming.Loren wrote:Time's running out, just 4 days left to register for this one!
It's a great learning opporunity, I'm surprised more people aren't signed up already. How often do you get free time to practice on a skidpad or a slalom?

My co-driver and his car won't be making it, my Rivals are shot, and the racecar is still in pieces. Who wants to let me beat on their car? I'm enthusiasticly open to driving something other than a Miata for a change.

Re: April 25 - FAST Classic T&T
Most of that is gone, but the cup holder still has some... :-/ I'm currently running the stock Miata bumper sleeper look too so reduced front weight without the lip, but that lower weight combined with the decreased downforce in the front may cause issues with my 1.5-2 yr old performance alignment that has been custom set by sections of field at brooksville. Those fire ants and their hills can set a mean alignment....
