My mistake then.. I thought it was more on the 4/day type deal.

In this area, 6-8 runs is about normal. The number of runs varies depending on where you go, based on the size of the events, the size of the sites, and how the individual clubs run their events -- go elsewhere, and it'll change.

Break...we need to open registration for the March event within the next week -- to that, the event chair needs to decide what it looks like so I can write the annoucement!

Loren wrote:The whole point of a 2-day event is that it IS a two-day event. If some folks can't make both days, that's OK (sorry, guys). Obviously, we have no trouble getting enough folks to come to our events, even at Brooksville. Generally, a 2-day "special event" is going to be limited entry, anyway. It will also be a "non-points" event, not counting toward the season championship.
I used to LOVE 2 day events, even if they were only 40 min from the house we all used to get hotel rooms near the event, and really with the price of gas today it pays to stay close to the event site. Ah reminds me one night going to Erv's BYOB GO-GO.. Perhaps we live in a diffrent world but the post-event, "Event" was always more fun then the auto crossing.

I won't tell you the story about us taking over one particular hotel, the Saturday between a two day event. Well, when the Statute of limitations is reached, then maybe.

Please keep in mind that we had a good handful of new people upset that 2/17 filled in about 3 days. Any sort of more-than-already-limited event is likely to make 70% of our prospective participants pretty unhappy when they can't get in.

I say make it 2 normal autocrosses, for points. Switch the course up on day 2. Everything will already be sitting out there from day 1. Easy.

It's 38 days away. That's plennnnty of time for people to make arrangements to be there.

I think the timing is bad. We just had a very successful novice school and autocross then had to turn away gobs of people for Feb.

Just my 2 cents. I'll likely be there no matter what is decided, so...

I think this is the best idea, and even if you can't make it for both days, the points system now lets you "miss" one event without affecting your final points at the end of the season.

Not everyone is going to like this idea, but then again, not everyone is going to like any final decision we make. :? We can't make everyone happy, we just need to make most people happy.

I also vote for expanding a few of the other events in 08' to 2-day events if possible.

If turnout continues to be high I think we have enough people that can make Sat but not Sun or the other way around to make a field each day :)

Let's see if the turnouts last before we start burning people out.

I like this this because I cannot make it on Saturday. The reason why I cannot make it is because I will be helping my brother at the nmra event, but it is only for Saturday. He is going to be selling at the swap meet. I would like to race my goal is to race in all of this years fast events. So I agree with this, but what do I know I am just a rookie and could be way off lol

What frequently is done is that one day is designated for points for the year but you have to make both days to win the event for which there is usually a prize trophy t shirt or some thing. This way you don't penalize people who can only make one day as far as the yearly points, plus you make the two day total meaningful as well.

Just so's everyone knows, and can plan accordingly - official word from the airport is that the only thing that we can leave on the airport overnight is our equipment trailer. No other vehicles, personal property, or people.

So I guess that means that everything including cones has to be packed back up in the trailer after Saturdays event?

They didn't say that, and I didn't ask that, but I'm thinking yeah. Last thing we need is a late-night sweep of the airport and someone thinking there might be a bomb under a cone or something.

I guess I'll send another email and clarify...

I know the BMW guys set up their courses on Friday night and leave them set up overnight for Saturday events.

Of course, that doesn't mean that the airport folks know or approve of it.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Unless others feel strongly about it, I won't bother asking - we can leave the cones out just like the other club does. As for other pieces and parts, if even we can leave stuff out, do we really want to?

The SCCA puts everything away, except for the cones. I don't know why though, maybe if there is a freak windstorm or something. Or to prevent stuff from getting stolen.

Just to be on the safe side I'd say that we put everything back in the trailer except for the cones. Without the cones, the trailer can be loaded up pretty quick.
