Just about the only thing left in them is air. Fred Flintstone's car has softer tires, at this point. They're starting to chunk from age while being pushed. Maybe one more event before I either have to use my daily driver tires or solicit a co-drive!twistedwankel wrote:Gerry is still winning on the used Hankooks I sold him from Shamu 3 years ago. Championship Points have been updated.
Since we're just 4 events from the end of the season, I went ahead and started tracking "estimated drops". (anyone who has missed 3 or more events is locked into zero drops and marked in green in the Drop column) There's a whole lot of "it ain't over 'till it's over" going on. Several classes are showing strong leads for first, but with 4 events left... anything can happen.

Fun event. Excellent course, better weather than I expected, car ran great and didn't leak anything, and I scored my first FAST Open class win! I'd won M2 before but it was at a Classic...
So where do I get my "I Beat Keith Robertson" sticker?
Only frowny face of the day is that I think the clutch might be going... I dumped the clutch for one launch and only got clutch shudder and no wheelspin. Any idea if this is normal for an NB on cheater tires? Or should I at least be able to chirp them?

NB clutch shudder is not uncommon. Maybe you combined that with (or it somehow caused) a slight bog? I wouldn't order a new clutch for one little incident like that.
Do the 5th gear clutch test. Cruise 35 mph in 5th. Clutch in, rev to 5k and hold. Dump the clutch. If it grabs hard, you're good.

Here is a fun run from the afternoon of the same day. In the first video I am running 750 springs in the rear, in this second video I have 650 springs in the rear. I can feel the difference when driving but even though I knew the course I could not match my morning times with the softer springs. The closest I could get was .2 seconds behind, but my average on the softer springs was about .5 seconds slower.

Thanks Doug, I felt good about it. Had fun, and posted my best overall finish with FAST. You might have to reconsider that tire decision!twistedwankel wrote:
Tony you really manned up to get second away from Sam and the Datsun AWD this time.
I was able to get a practice 47.06 later with a passenger but just couldn't get my zags and zigs sorted out on return lane by myself.....damn tires squealed like pigs all the way home.
Congrats on getting some actual points again with a sticker!!

I suppose I could stop racing/maintaining two cars and just stick with one getting the latest tires and fatter Z06 rims to run AS? Carl has been beating me by 1/2 a second the last two events in S1. I should just drive better and take this more seriously? Way too much fun still. Even Dave's S3 beat me two events ago. I assume he changed his crappy old tires too? Unless I go to 11 and 12 inch rims + driver's school I cannot touch Ken. There was no GT3 option for a C5 that I'm aware of and he beats all the Z06's now.tdinfl wrote:[

Yeah. Tires mean a lot and I will probably stop experimenting next purchase!! Now that S0 is loaded with super top competition I might go back to S2 and wear out my old RS3's for awhile. I still cannot beat S4 times with either car....

I honestly don't remember what tire pressures we run in that car. Ben has a notion, and it seems to work okay.

Fun event as usual. Really glad I didn't tie with Elliot again. Hopefully next time I can find the last second or so like I did in Ft Meyers the week before and give Elliot a proper whooping. I never got along well with the second half of this course but the first half I did fairly well.

Thought for sure it must have been ours. We have a history of knocking things off all our vehicles, but not this time...We also have a 5x3 inch flat vented cover, maybe from inside a fender. Says Subaru on it.

Fun event as always. I pushed pretty hard and didn't completely suck, but I'm not always pushing hard enough, and I could still suck less.
Talked to Steve and Joe about car setup, and I've decided to add a little more camber and remove my rear sway bar (especially with how tail happy my car has been lately)
Anyways, here's my video for my slowest run, exemplifying the tail happiness, and my fastest run.

Before I agree that what your car needs is less rear swaybar... what's the rest of your suspension setup?
What I'm seeing in this video sort of "feels" like you're bottoming out the rear suspension, which spikes the rear "spring rate" to infinity and causes snap oversteer. Too low in the rear? Too soft in the rear? Blown shocks in the rear? Lack of bump stops in the rear?
Too much bar tends to react "instantly". When you turn in, the bar reacts NOW, and your problem shows right then. What I'm talking about (and what I'm seeing in the video) is more of a problem WAY after turn-in... like middle-of-the-turn-around... or when you really yank the wheel. Slamming the bump stop (or lack of bump stop) like that = instant oversteer.
That's my take. How does it jive with your actual setup?
Adding or removing a STOCK rear swaybar on a Miata is a pretty subtle effect. If you were getting just a LITTLE oversteer coming out of the turn-around and wanted to be able to put down more power in that kind of situation... dropping the rear bar can help. Your problem is more pronounced than that.
