Damned printouts. I didn't either until I got home. At least I beat Joe Vance by .016 SWEET

Dave it is what it is. You are still 2nd. We'll live. I lost two places at a nationals because of a dishonest cone counter...you're the bestDave-ROR wrote:So my last run had a cone. I don't care about points, but maybe Carl or old arse Doug does... so you can move me to 4th in S1. I suck, I know.
What is this flow you speak of? I never found it. Do over for sure.Native wrote:.
I'm not one to pick favorites, but that course was definitely one of the best! Wonderful variety and skills needed to get through, and nice and smooth flow. Goodness.
Hehe. Jamie was trying to twist the knife when he sent that text. You took the high road and replied simply, "nice" It was good for a chuckle. What a fun day!Carracer wrote:I felt good with my 40.8 when I left only to get a text from the man himself. It was simple, just "40.559". That must have been a lap!

If I may ask, what software is that for the track map?Evil MS3 wrote: Here's video I put together of my runs. If anyone has any advice or comments, please chime in.
It's the Virb edit software. My Garmin Virb Elite cam records GPS and telemetry data and kinda creates a "course map" based on where I traveled during a recorded session. You can then use the Virb edit software to add a bunch of different data overlays.dan wrote:If I may ask, what software is that for the track map?Evil MS3 wrote: Here's video I put together of my runs. Less about it being straight, more about it being way up on top of the car. Dunno about you, but I don't drive from up there.Evil MS3 wrote:As far as the camera angle, i don't know how I managed that lol I thought it was straight. Derrrrrr.
Lol I gotcha, I'll have to try elsewhere next time.Loren wrote:Less about it being straight, more about it being way up on top of the car. Dunno about you, but I don't drive from up there.![]()
I took that option box to the right. Took it to the left once, really didn't seem much different (exact same time, and not difficult to drive in either direction). For me, going right just seemed to flow better. Allowed me to start setting up to the left earlier so that I could get the late apex on that right-hander.
But, Joe Brannon told me that he thought taking it to the left was unquestionably faster.![]()
I'm sure it was car-dependent, but I really think both of those options could have been taken either way without issue in most cars as long as you COMMITTED to what you were doing and planned it right. The first one was set up that way intentionally. The second one, we looked at and considered whether we could tweak it to require slalom entry on the right. But, if you moved that green pin cone enough in one direction, it just made it a highway in the other direction. So, we pretty much left it in the middle where we thought the obvious line was to take it to the right and flow through it... but, it could also be driven the other way without issue. Bottom line is that both of those options were mostly psychological!
The slalom needed to be entered on the left, which paid big dividends at the end of the slalom. Full throttle at the second-to-last slalom cone if you entered left. Frustration if you entered right. Ron Rice can tell you all about that.
Dude, I got your 200k+ mile monster. I forgot how to drive it.twistedwankel wrote:I think I heard Joe Vance offer Jamie $10 grand and his car as a trade up to the 200k mile monster to run in M3? Makes a lot of sense, thank you. I feel good when I enter the slalom but mid way through I feel like I lose my rhythm and the line and it goes to hell. I might be trying to carry too much speed through there and with my cars weight and stock suspension I just lose the line. Looks like I need a lot more slalom practice.Native wrote:I'll throw .02 into this one, Taylor. Now, I admit I'm going solely by camera angle, but it looks pretty clear to me.
I'm a bit picky about line (not so good at finding my own...), and while your speed and technique are quite good, you are behind on course, or turning too late, a lot. A better line will make you quicker.
For example, in the single cone slalom, not so much "attack the back" - you are waiting to turn until you are right on the cone.
I attached a couple of screen caps from your video in the pdf. The stills are from the same run (your first). At the beginning of the slalom, your entry is good - attack the back. But by the end, you got behind. If you watch your vids, you're behind a lot, not just in the slalom. Better car position will make a big difference.
Thank you for the pics as always!Carracer wrote:PICTURES!
