How are you clamping em? I bought a set of clamps and a tool on amazon and it holds well. More sturdy than my Orem clamps.

they're genuine vdub clamps for this model. Tool is from amazon and has half inch connections for torque wrench or breaker bar....more leverage. Even with extra leverage that thing did require some effort to crimp.

I used some hi temp grease from autozone to repack. Maybe I packed too much?

Messy job and spent time cleaning the outer edge inside the boot and the surface of the joint.

Ordered two more vdub clamps online. Good thing I work at home

If it is an "overfilled" situation, it will work itself out. The big thing with CV joints is keeping dirt OUT. I'm sure your boot is doing that. There's no way ALL of the grease can escape.

I'd let it ride for a while. GIve it a good cleaning after a week or so... and then see if the leaking continues.

And if all else fails, replacement axles are typically only around $100.

Did you use the correct kind of grease? I don't know how VW does it but for my car, both ends used a different type of grease.

Loren, yes I think I'm going to drive - clean, drive - clean a few times first.

CaptainSquirts, I bought high temp grease at autozone, was recommended for wheel bearings. Saw online that high temp is recommended by some for CV. Figured it should work.
